Really enjoying Partridge. Last nights episode was another good one.

Also (probably wrong thread) but enjoyed The Dirt. Movie about Motley Crue.

Partridge was quite good last night. It's taken the whole series to get to the Smell My Cheese moment but it was worth it (though some of the cringe-inducing parts of the series didn't feel it at the time). That was the last one, wasn't it?

Line of Duty has started well, even if for the first 15 minutes I thought they'd just re-hashed the first series and got a robot Hastings to repeat old lines.

Dead Pixels on E4. For anyone who is or has a gamer in their life, this is fooking hilarious.

Same writer as Fresh Meat. Similar style.

The Haunting of Hill House - Netflix horror whereby a family move into a creepy old house with a view to doing it up and selling on and things don't go well.

Story follows the now grown up kids one by one, piecing together what happened in the house in flashbacks running along side the present day narrative.

I don't generally like this sort of thing, but I thought it created some brilliant tension and the solving of the mysteries within the plot episode by episode really kept us hooked to the end.

The finale let the rest down a little, but all in all, fun to watch, recommended.

I'll probably post this in a couple of other threads because it may well be helpful to a few people.

Horizon
2018: 9. Body Clock: What Makes Us Tick?

We all have a biological clock ticking away inside us that governs our daily rhythms. This affects our health as much as our diet and whether we exercise. So what can we do to manage this internal clock better? Studies on shift workers show that regularly disrupting our sleep makes us more at risk of diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. So getting to grips with our biological clock couldn't be more important.

Billions

How has this not been in my life before now? Looking for something to watch with the O/H and finally managed to get this in the list. God it's good.

Indeed it is, and it gets better and better. TV shows really do bring the A-game these days, don't they? Do people still bother with films? I haven't seen anything decent in ages.

You'll notice signs of enthusiasm in my post above. That precludes Nathan entirely

The film comment - not a whinge as such, more a change in the viewing habits of us all over the years. IMO. There just seems to be a higher quality of casting, storylines and so on in TV series nowadays, and the fact that movie releases seem to mainly consist of safe-and-sound remakes or comic adaptations bears this out, again IMO.

Tbh I'd far rather have good TV shows to watch, week in week out, than the occasional awesome film, so happy days.

Even the dross they made 10-15 years ago suddenly seems appealing compared to Hollywood's output today.

JLIC. Although I do believe that this year looks a tad weak on the movie front anyway, might get saved by Starwars in December though.

There has been a bunch of decent movies already this year.

There has been a definite increase in quality of TV over the last 15 or so years but I wouldn’t say it’s overtaken cinema.

It might seem that way because there is just more of it. 10 hours of a great TV show seems better than a great 2 hour movie.

I'm not so sure, based on nothing more scientific than people just not really talking that much about movies any more.

Yeah there is that. I went with a group of people to see Us a couple of weeks ago, we went for some food, watched the movie then went to the pub and ended up chatting about films for a while. This is something we used to do fairly regularly but it’s the first time I’ve done it in at least a year.

Partially because by the time I got home I’d spent about £100 which is quite a lot for a Tuesday night out .

We still watch a lot of movies though. I think it’s more of a group thing. Me and my missus will watch more tv shows together but we’ll tend to watch a couple of movies when folk are over. I watch a lot of movies on my own as well.

I think its just the economics of the industry.

Film budgets are speculative investments, therefore bankable franchises still get milked but anything interesting is too much of a gamble.

Netflix etc will buy any old crap which I feel is why TV output seems to eclipse films.

I think movies are going the other way tbh, obviously the huge tentpole franchises are dominating things but there is a strong undercurrent of independent film makers and production companies making brilliant low budget movies. This being helped by the technology costs of making movies dropping all the time.

The only problem with this at this point is the amount of times that someone will make one well received indie movie then get scooped up for a massive studio project. A lot of them just end up lost in the system.

Well if you know of any such films, this would be the place to broadcast them. Seriously - I don't give a shite about whatever Marvel's latest CGI wankfest is so don't keep interesting discoveries to yourself.

I stopped putting reviews in the threads because I started to think no one gave a shit but I'll stick a wee list of good stuff I've seen recently for everyone to tear to pieces .

Please do. I like to try out stuff that wouldn't normally be my taste.

I'd agree there is a new wave of indie films. I just feel that most of them aren't worth watching.

Always the same topical themes and just bland sorry.
