Yep, US have requested his extradition, apparently.

I don’t think he should be extradited to the US.

He should’ve gone to Sweden and faced the charges there though, instead of hiding in a cupboard for 7 years.

I was thinking the same thing Zed...

It's a shame he wasn't extradited to Sweden, convicted of Rape and Sexual Assault and sentenced to life in prison to the echo's of "who ??" from the Americans...

Sending him to America just validates his past 7 year stance...

You don't know why his extradition has been requested or what charges the US want to level at him as the papers are sealed. The UK courts will decide whether or not the request is lawful.

You're right, I thought the charges had been released but it's all just speculation. Which makes sense considering that Chelsea Manning has gone back to jail in protest at the secrecy of the Wikileaks investigation.

Still don't think anyone involved with Wikileaks would get anything close to a fair trial in the US as it is just now.

Moreno said he has guarantees from the UK that Assange would not be extradited to a country where he could face the death penalty.
Which is interestingly worded.

Interesting that after 7 years in the Embassy, the one charge he currently faces from the US carries a max term of 5 years, more to come?

The cynical might say that they’ve chosen a relatively lightweight crime in order to gain extradition without risking any arguments about death penalties, torture, unduly long sentences etc.
