Doesn't need to be. If we are not in the EU it is a political decision whether we need to or not. Even if the current DfT suggests compliance we are free to vote them out.

People will make the point that most of the cars we buy are made in the EU, but as per the other thread re japanese cars not having their home market limiters in overseas jurisdictions, it doesn't automatically follow that that tech would be fitted to UK market cars.

The US (amongst others) for example are very likely to not buy into it so there would be a large market for non EU compliant vehicles.

You can choose to over-ride it, but if you have a crash at 31mph in a 30 limit, you will be deemed to have been travelling "too fast". But you'll still be able to do 70mph on the motorway in freezing fog of course.

No you're right - it generally isn't.

To be fair to it, in two and a half years it has never let me down in any way - it is missing a little bit of power which I think may be something like a lazy varioram solenoid. Its not serious enough to throw any codes so isn't 'broken' per se.

I haven't actually spent anything on it other than fuel since its MOT last October so its not doing too bad at the moment.
