It could well be but I thought I'd try it for a prolonged period and see what results I came up with. All the rants people have on BabyBMW about V-Power and the like I thought it may be interesting to see what happened. All my diesels have been run on cheap supermarket tat with no problems whatsoever, well apart from catastrophic engine failure on my Mondeo ST Tdci but I'm sure that wasn't fuel related! :lol:

It's great to be able to buy SUL at £1.20 and above compared to diesel and I still find it ridiculous that due to mileage claim back, the M140i is cheaper to run than my C220d AMG Line Premium Plus (sorry, long winded name make me chuckle).

The service interval is just bonkers to me though.

I used to run my Golf R on V-Power, as it asked for at least 98 RON on the filler cap

For my Abarth Spider I use whatever. It only wants 95 RON, and being a lease, I’m not especially precious with it

I can’t imagine that you’ll ever make enough of an MPG increase to save the cost increase between regular fuel and v-power

I think they’ve changed something with V Power as I get a check engine light with it now whereas the car was fine with it for the previous 14 years... I just use the Tesco version instead but the Tesco pumps are so fucking slow.
How about not having a sig at all?

I feel pretty confident, had the problem for about a year now but only thought about changing fuel at the beginning of the year at which point the light just turned off by itself after half a tank. Then used Shell and it turned on again. The OBD reader gives a random emissions related code so maybe it’s just an old sensor that doesn’t like it.
How about not having a sig at all?

Fitted knobblies. 185 sections look really skinny ! And stretched a bit. Probably need narrower rims and some 20mm spacers really.

What are they equivalent to, 185/60/15?


The A2 used to throw a code or two and a light on 95 which went away on V-Power :?
It's had a new cat & lambda sensors since then for other reasons but it was probably a niggle with one of those that was the cause.
My Passat 1.8T went from 36mpg on 95 to 38mpg on V-Power doing the same commute. I can't remember the cost of fuel then, but with the extra cashback from the Shell loyalty it probably cost the same per mile for either fuel.

Standard sizes are 195 65 15 on the 6.5in steel wheels and 205 60 15 on the 7in alloys. If I was keeping mine I was eyeing up some 185 70 15 winters for next year. It was very good on 205 section all seasons last winter.

I treated the mito to a tank of momentum this week ( as I doubt it's ever had anything other than standard 95 )

It doesn't feel any different, but it has used less fuel on the weekly commute than anything else I've ever owned. I was slightly concerned the first time I filled it up and realised the tank was a fair bit smaller than I'm used to, and I can't be bothered to get fuel more than once a week of standard journeys.

205/55 x16 CWC 850s at the mo
But also have some 205/50 x 17s for the rest of the year
They’re both factory approved fitment sizes

205 50 17 are a size I have considered many times but yet to try. Weirdly enough I've just got the inlaws 1er over and that's on 205 50 17 front, 225 45 17 rear.

Been and had my michelins fitted, feel firmer but yet to scrub them in, check pressures and lean on them.

The old rear tyres still looked almost new, but didn't like the look of the cracking

They also seemed to pick up and hold every loose stone on the road for some reason 🤔

Fronts were more worn, but had also started cracking through the inner and outer tread blocks

Oh FFS, why does this keep happening to me? What am I doing wrong?!

Took my bike in for new tyres, turns out they don’t have a socket big enough to get my rear wheel off (60mm). “We’ve done these before so they must have changed the nut size on your year of bike”. They’ll have a socket in by mid-next week 🙄

Checked it out when I got home: they’ve always been 60mm on these bikes. Aaaargh.

Dunno :)

The tyres were a tenner each, I already had some bare rims, and I put the tyres on myself so it’s a cheap experiment. I might run them for the Autosolo at Abingdon just for teh lollzzz.

And I’ve got my eye on some more tyres, and some E34 rims :roll:
