The ebay thread
Re: The ebay thread
Give me a black interior, but the exterior is indeed lovely.
E46 M3 prices are only going one way from here, I think.

mines in for a new MAF, Xenon Ballast, 6x coils, plugs, service, gearbox and engine oils and a headlight level sensor.Coaster1 wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 12:50 amIt’s so easy to spend money on them; they’re all at an age where they’ve become rolling restoration. I sold mine at £14k (advertised for £16k, really wanted £14.5k, but I was ‘on the clock’ to complete the GT3 purchase so let it go for £14k). Before selling it I was quoted £1.5-1.8k to tidy up bodywork (repaint front & rear bumpers, driver’s door, front arches rust - I didn’t do the work and opted to sell ‘as is’) and my car had not had any suspension refresh (17 yo, 89k miles) so that could easily be another £2k.Foz wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:20 amI have extensive experience of spending lots on 911’sNotoriousREV wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:22 am
You could spend £14k for a 3.4 off Autotrader for one with similar mileage, and easily find you need to spend another £4k on refreshing it and it still won’t be as nice or as well specced as this one.![]()
Looking back, I was very lucky to have found the ‘right’ buyer and sold the car within 4 days.
My pal sold the car above for £19k in the end.
Edit to add, these 996s are great for DIYers though if you have the skills, time and space, as my pal, and Sundayjumper etc proved.

Re: The ebay thread
there’ll still be cheap sheddy ones for a while I reckon, but it won’t be many years before they’re gone and then the silly rises will happen. I saw the prices bottom out and start to rise when I had mine.240PP wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 7:54 am Give me a black interior, but the exterior is indeed lovely.

For cars like this you end up at a point where the scruffier cars end up being worth more in parts so they get broken, leaving mostly decent ones behind. That's when the prices go up. I think the E46 M3 has just passed this point as there don't seem to be any cheap sheds left.Rich B wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 8:52 amthere’ll still be cheap sheddy ones for a while I reckon, but it won’t be many years before they’re gone and then the silly rises will happen. There was one for sale close to me recently. It was completely the wrong spec in Phoenix yellow and a cab (I don’t actually hate the colour) but it was a minter with sensible mileage and a up for about 6 or 7 grand, parked in the driveway of a very expensive house. I was tempted by it as a bit of fun for the summer.

They never really dropped as far as they should have given how many there were around and how sheddy some of them were, but they've been sitting around the same level for a long while now.
The really tidy low milers have risen quite a lot, or at least asking prices for them have, but the low end are only a grand or two up from where they were.

Theres something fascinating about Volvos that I can never put my finger on. A stupid fast 240 estate sleeper would be high on my lottery win list .ZedLeg wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 9:14 am I need this.

I’ve had 4 240s
.
Two doors are pretty rare here and one with the work done to drop a V8 in is pretty much my ideal car.

I'd love a V8 estate rolling on wide steelies. There was a lovely beige 4 door saloon on ebay this week, too. If I thought I'd actually do anything with it, it would be very tempting.ZedLeg wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 10:54 am I’ve had 4 240s.

At least it's got pop outs

My actual dream is an estate dropped in wide steelies with a big turbo red block, keeping it legit SwedishNotoriousREV wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 4:16 pmI'd love a V8 estate rolling on wide steelies. excellent, I’ve always had trouble seeing the top of the dials with the wheel in the most comfortable position in my BMWs. Problem solved!
