It failed its MOT last month on quite a few things:

Offside Rear Rear fog lamp not working (4.5.1 (a) (ii))

Offside Front Direction indicator incorrect colour (4.4.3 (a))
Front Registration plate insecure broken (0.1 (a))
Front Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases flex (6.1.2 (a))
Rear Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases back box (6.1.2 (a))
Offside Front Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.1.3 (b) (i))
Offside Rear Tyre has a cut in excess of the requirements deep enough to reach the ply or cords (5.2.3 (d) (i))
Exhaust Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits 1.187 (8.2.1.2 (c))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Rear heat shield at back box insicure

Yep - ive checked that.

Its also got too many miles on it for my liking...being a 10 year old fiat.

The garage said that its been fixed for the MOT and will be going back in this week to get redone.

Ive also sent her a link for a different grande punto with 50k on the clock at the same price - £1400

Scraping the barrel of the bottom of the market but its all she can afford.

They're actually pretty solid, was the first car in its class to get a 5 star rating when it was released in 2005.

The 2017 test put it at 0 mainly because of a lack of preventative systems, watching the videos and reading the comments on the test it performed just as well as the 2005 car.

My mum had one a few years ago and it always felt every bit as solid as a polo or golf with a firm this to the doors.

You can still buy a brand new punto, mito or corsa with basically the same body. I think calling them death traps is a bit harsh :lol:
