Update: another Glaucoma purchased yesterday to replace the one which was written off a couple of months ago. They seem to be getting rarer (hey, we've scrapped one and killed another in the last year or so) but every now and again a low-mileage FSH one turns up; this was even more local than the last, in fact, but £120 more.

Popular up Crickley Hill I imagine. That'll be why so many for sale have stains on the seats.

The Touareg hadn’t been used in nearly a month so surprise surprise the battery was dead.

Fortunately - and genuinely surprisingly - The Compact easily jump-started the five litre V10

Do the V10 Touaregs not have two batteries? I'm sure I read there's an ignition key sequence to get the car to use the other battery to start it.

How's the Touareg generally been to run SJ? No large bills?

You're right, they do, one in the boot and one under the passenger seat. But I was under the impression the car was vaguely "smart" and would figure out if one battery was dead. I read this ages ago but tbh I didn't some away any the wiser. Too much detail I think.

Nothing has gone wrong yet. Except maybe it needs a new battery or two ! I don't use it very often though, it's almost exclusively used as a tow car, and that's not an everyday duty.

The front wishbones were already f***ed when I bought it, so I did those almost straight away, which was a pig of a job and about £500 of parts in the end. In my head that's "wear & tear" rather than "broken"

In the course of doing those I managed to damage two of the front CV boots, one on each side, so I need to replace those for the MOT. That's obviously not the car's fault though.

Apart from that it's all been fine. On a steady run it'll do high 20s mpg which doesn't seem too bad considering, and it only drops a couple of mpg with a trailer & The Compact on the back.

It needs an MOT once I've done the CV boots, so we'll see what that throws up, but overall it's been quite good so far.

Glad to hear it hasn’t been ruinous to run! They seem such a bargain to buy at the moment, and I can’t work out if that’s because of their reputation with owners or whether it’s interent myths about running costs (or perhaps a mix of both). Fuel economy seems pretty decent too. What made you choose that particular car? Did you look at a few before deciding on that one? I assume with cars like that, meticulous service history is a must.

On the subject of fuel economy, on my trips out to Scarbs (which involve a lot of cruise control, and occasional prolonged bouts of insanely childish behaviour) I'd see 24-26mpg on the on board trip computer thing.

Today, with freshly polished MAF? A solid 30.

So Beany polished a MAF, Gwaredd fixed a boost leak. Has anyone fixed anything by moving it 6 inches to the left or by licking the terminals?

I think the previous owner of Jobbo's Glaucoma did that up Crickley Hill. Hence the stains.

I fixed some peeling paint by painting an exhaust and doing some polishing. Despite being very good at moving my wrist forwards and backwards like a reciprocating saw my stamina is only about 90 seconds so it didn’t cum out as shiny as I wanted. Still, good enough for the girls I go out with.

Swapped out the Mondeo's FL brake caliper today with a replacement from ECP. It's a Pagid boxed remanufactured unit, but when I got it out it was an original FoMoCo part that had been reworked, so happy with that. Net cost - £62 after weekend 'sale' and surcharge refund. Pleased with that.

Bought new (original) car mats for the Merc which were missing from when I picked it up.

Both cars are filthy so will give them a decent wash next weekend to remove the winter salt. Just need a good bit of rain now to wash it all off the roads too.
