I also hated that. It's like when people call Series Land Rovers "Defenders".

But the Suzukis known as SJ over here were always called Jimny in their home market. It's like Miatas and MX5s. Both names are equally valid.

A Defender badge was not used on the series LRs so is demonstrably incorrect.

I'd argue that it's only a Miata if it's a US spec MX5. An MX5 is not a Eunos Roadster ;)

So you didn't vote for the land rover because it hadn't been lowered and had its number plate in the correct place?

Mustang, Mini, and possibly Beetle are the only 'iconic' ones there IMO

Lotus 7 isn’t iconic because a) it’s not that popular and b) didn’t really change the world.

911 hasn’t spawned any rear-engined copycats other than the Skoda Estelle. So, no dice. The Beetle spawned the 911 so it is iconic.

The Mustang and the Mini both set the template for their respective market segments. The Mini with its transverse engine and gearbox revolutionised small, family cars. The Mustang created the Pony car and, later, the muscle car.

Defender is a copy of the original jeeps, so the jeep is iconic, the Land Rover not.
