280bhp, is that a de-tuned Golf R engine then?

From the Cupra 280 according to this. (Which may also be the Golf R engine )

edit: the old one was a 3.6 V6, as I'm sure you know

They're all the same engine save for varying states of tune - the EA888. Which I need to do some reading up on as I know nowt about them at all.

The Superb dropped from 280 to 272 last year with WLTP and needing a GPF, which is when it also switched to 7spd DSG from the 6spd. As a result 0-60 times dropped from 5.6 to 5.3s. I think the Golf R is now up at 310hp.

They definitely make a difference - they also come with launch control on pretty much all VAG cars. Even my A6 had launch control, though embarrassingly I never tried it.

I was considering a Superb 280 Estate for dog carrying and work/business duties, but I now need to get a 4x4. I was looking at 2-3 year old ones, so I could take it to Revo for a remap....

280 is 4x4 Mikey, unless you mean SUV?

It's definitely part of it, DSGs just fire through tthe gears almost seamlessly. In pracical terms they're hardly slower than race sequential boxes. Also these engines have lots of power but also a boat-load of torque delivered right through the rev range. Sierra Cosworths had just North of 200bhp yet we now think nothing of these ubiquitous nigh-on-300bhp cars. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that they'll do mid-5s to 60mph.

Our 125i has the same power to weight as my 330i, yet will hit 60 0.8s quicker (5.8 vs 6.6) - I'd imagine most of that is down to the ZF8 'box. In fact, I think the Sport Auto optioned version we have is listed as 0.3s or so quicker than the standard ZF8.

Harry - seemingly not no Well, not as an option on the Sportline anyway. It's the Vega ones as shown in that pic, or the Supernova which we've gone for, as in this pic:



There's a stack of wheels in the accessories, including two shades of the Supernova (gloss black or grey) - annoyingly we don't even know what shade will be on ours as the options list doesn't specify I assume the "options" lists are slimmed down from the total available wheels in order to keep the WLTP testing as simple as possible. I haven't enquired as to whether a deal could be done if we decided we didn't like what we get and prefer another.

I loved the previous generation we had for a few weeks, surprisingly big.

Not keen on the colour but that’s a huge amount of new car for the money.

It's a good point.

I thought my Megane wheels were nice and distinctive but the following recent family purchases all have diamond cut on black alloys
- Kia Venga
- Nissan Juke
- Nissan Qashqai

(yeah, aside from a love of Morris Minors, they aren't exactly a car-mad bunch, as you can tell)

Dad's new Citroen C4 Picasso - don't think this does have them, but I could be wrong.

Car arrived last Saturday and went straight off for a new car protection detail with ceramic coating. First chance I've had to drive it today - I'll reserve judgement for now as it was only a quick 5min pootle. Generally a very nice place to be though amd the most impressive touchscreen I've used in anything yet - very intuitive and reactive.
