Tyres that won't balance?

Post by Swervin_Mervin »

Anyone ever had this?

Had 2 new F1 Assymmetric 3 fitted to the rear mid-Dec. Wasn't until over Xmas that I used it at speed and it had a vibration between 50-80. Took it back and got it rebalanced. Still no not.

Had it back again last week amd watched them rebalance both statically and dynamically. A fair amount of weights on one wheel (can't remember how much). And whilst it's now a lot better, it's still not right. It's a small vibration but still noticeable especially on newer surfaces.

It was perfect before the new tyres so I can't think what else it could be but do you get dodgy tyres that just can't be balanced properly?

Are you sure a wheel isn’t buckled*? (*Sorry)

Could also be a tyre with high radial force variation (triangular tyre) which is a separate issue to balance.

Could be that their equipment isn't great. Worth trying somewhere else?

Tried 2 places. Both used solely over the last 10yrs without issue so I'd be surprised. Also not sure the rears are bent - like I say it was fine before the new tyres.

Bascially the tyre isn't consistant in effective stiffness as it goes through a full rotation, any number of reasons for this from a fault in manufacture to just being stored badly at some point. The stable and efficient herringbone stack can do this.
