If they hadn’t slapped the Supra name badge on it, people would be more forgiving. Or at least, I might. Something called Supra should be Toyota’s answer to the GTR, not a tarted up Z4.RobYob wrote: Wed Jan 16, 2019 5:21 pmSo it's too expensive but you want it to compete with the 488?Richard wrote: Wed Jan 16, 2019 2:14 pm Seems slow and expensive
I believe the A80 was faster than the then current V8 Ferrari, (the 348)
Hardly the case now
Scale up the price difference from the 90s 348 vs A90 (sauce) and the new Supra would be £105k.
Or scale it less ambitiously against the 911 and it'd be £85k.
So actually it's fast, cheap and (Toyota=reliable) must be the devil's work.

Re: New Supra
I'm skeptical a 450bhp 70k Supra would be more popular that what has just been launched.
Supra Type-R (yeah I know, sue me) I can imagine sneaking in late 2020 with approxiamtely that spec and price though, unless BMW have some clause prohibiting Toyota from using an uprated engine to protect any Z4M.
Re: New Supra
Alternative view: it’s a better looking hard top Z4 with a nicer interior. And probably handles better because it’s not trying to be a hairdresser car and has a stiffer structure.
Re: New Supra
Rev is correct.
Supra is supposed to be a big fast 2+2 rwd brute. When we were 19/20 my mate had an A80 3L TT with big wheels and a body kit. At the time it seemed like the coolest thing out there. Once, leaving a concert car park a girl flashed her breasts at it... I don't see that happening with this one!

Re: New Supra
I think a mustang is closer to being a Supra than this is.
Re: New Supra
Has anyone does a modded Fasy & Furious style photoshop of the new one yet?
ETA: Yes, they have. 10 months ago.

Re: New Supra
Interesting. Probably pretty true
Also, Rev was right saying it should be Toyotas answer to the GTR. I think more 2007 launch GTR prices and impact, rather than the now price
Re: New Supra
Dealer I use for my servicing on the GT86 is the importer for all the TRD and modding parts in NZ. They're already 'suggesting' the 4pot versions is specifically as a cheap entry point for people doing modifying, no more.
Re: New Supra
Dear Toyota,
Hahaha very funny. You got us good.
Can you now please show us the REAL new Supra.
Many thanks,
James.

Smmeees video on these is quite good. In the grey they're interesting. A grower I'd say.
Re: New Supra
The front end looks better than the actual one. Should've got Veilside to design itPete_ wrote: Wed Jan 16, 2019 8:22 pm Has anyone does a modded Fasy & Furious style photoshop of the new one yet?

Re: New Supra
I've been wondering which bit people find ugly. I think I've worked it out - most of the images I've seen have had a front number plate which hides the proboscis bit in the centre of the bumper; without a plate, I'm not a massive fan of the front but with a plate I like it. And I like the rest of the shape very much. I've been a fan of Toyota and Lexus rear ends ever since they started this current slashed look (with the IS250 in 2013?) and this really appropriately blends that modernity with the last Supra and GT86 rears.
People seemed to like BMW's last coupe version of the Z4 very much, and this seems a spiritual successor to that as well.

Mainly the bodywork for me.

Re: New Supra
Normally bulbous arches are A Good Thing.
They've managed to make both front and rear arches look crap.
(In most of the pics - in a couple of shots they look ok)

Re: New Supra
Exactly, as per every other point made by Rev in this thread.
Re: New Supra
This thread would then be ten pages long about how it hasn't got four wheel drive or four seats.

Re: New Supra
Well, Celicas have been RWD, FWD and AWD so you can't really use that argument. 4 seats, maybe but the class the Celica existed in has almost disappeared completely. There's the Scirocco. What else? Arguably the GT86 filled that niche.RobYob wrote: Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:38 amThis thread would then be ten pages long about how it hasn't got four wheel drive or four seats.
