Cheers. Googling seems not to throw up any obvious or consistent solutions to the problem, though there are a fair few reports across the Ford model range (which makes sense as they've been used in various Fiestas, Focuses, Mondeos, etc.).

Looking at the fuse diagram, it appears that the radio fuse is also the one for the heater/AC controls and the dash, so can't exactly drive around with it unplugged.

It is going into the local Ford dealer on Wednesday for some recall work. Will ask if they know about the issue. If not, I will ask my mechanic for an auto sparky recommendation.

The fronts are still the tyres the car came on, so am I not supposed to have died already or something?

I'll see if I can get it plugged, but if it's done even a few hundred feet on the sidewalls then it's probably shagged, which is what happened last time.

It's amazing the amount of owners who believe they are twin turbos. Never heard one called a flat 6 though!

Yep. Even 20d owners think that twinpower means twin turbo.

Truck mot passed, nothing untoward. Cooling system pressure test passed and recon turbo fitted.
I'll drive it a bit myself now it does howl like a banshee (was worn bearings as suspected).
Next up is gearbox drivershaft seals, exhaust fit, new fuel pump and filter on the Scooby.

I gave my Italian handbag in for a service and MOT at 8am. Still had no phonecall so I’m getting quite nervous.

They had a new Wrangler in which was really nice (compared to the usual run of the mill SUVs). Once the ULEZ expands in a few years I may be tempted to get one as my stupid London runabout.

It’s my cheap reliable easily manoeuvreable city runabout. Also good thing I refused the condenser job for a mere £689 fitted including VAT

Bunged some air in the tyre last night to move the car to somewhere flat, and figured I'd take the opportunity to inspect the tyre as best I could.

So
Car moved to flat sideroad
Handbrake off
Engine on (so I could leave the lights on in case anyone drove past) in neutral
Get down behind the car with a torch so I can see the four inches or so of tyre visible, because the thing is so low.
Inspect tread width with torch,
Roll car forward six inches
Inspect tread width with torch,
Roll car forward six inches

Repeat till rotated.

Not a hint of anything in the tyre. At all.

I did notice, when inflating it, that the valve felt a bit loose (it spun as I put screwed the compressor pipe onto it - pretty sure it shouldn't do that... ) - so I think I'll be having a chat with the tyre fitter about that.

Anyone familiar with tyre fitting and know how the valve stems are fitted? I could google it but that way I'm sure madness lies.

They just screw in. Long nose pliers will tighten it. I used to have a screwdriver that did it.

Sticking some washing up liquid in the valve will tell you if it’s leaking.
