North Wales meet & Anglesey, March 2019
North Wales meet & Anglesey, March 2019
I’m going to Oulton Park TD on Fri 8th March, and thought that I might as well make a weekend out of it.
Is there anyone interested in a North Wales meet on Sat 9th March?
After that I’ll be going to Anglesey TD on Sun 10th March* (Circuit-Days, £149 early bird offer until 1st Jan 2019), if anyone fancy doing both.
Barry and two other mates are interested, but the more the merrier. It’ll be a bit of a gamble on the weather but there you go.
* ok the real reason is visiting the BBQ Smokehouse in Anglesey 🍽

Wales will be empty that weekend, we all go to Scotland for the Six Nations Rugby.
It's a shame as i fancy Anglesey and I haven't done any serious track action for over 5 yrs

Ah, damn, I fancy Anglesey but it’s my mum’s birthday that weekend so won’t be able to join you.
Left over crest; tightens.

We're staying at a hotel just over the bridge in Anglesey Sat night, probably eating out locally, in case anyone feels like tagging along too. We'll need numbers for that though, need to book table etc.
Route for Sat depends on weather, fatigue, time etc. I'll gauge mood on the day. Won't be a fast run, just showing people around - need to conserve energy for Sundays fun.

Great weekend.
Friday started off at Oulton Park, wet to start then dry lines appeared. Didn’t last though as it rained again from lunchtime. Fun and challenging day. Lots of quick drivers and loads of tasty metals; I didn’t take any pictures as I was too busy driving.
Saturday, after meeting up with Barry, we headed off for a quick cuppa at Llangollen, then we zigzagged our way to EVO triangle before lunch at Bala.
Porsche wankers
2 minutes later......
.....
..

After that we had a great run to Ffestiniog; traffic was fairly light and other drivers even courteously pulled over for us to pass
Then Barry took us to Snowdonia before a brisk run to the hotel.

Sunday at Anglesey, started off wet but soon rain stopped. High wind helped drying out the track but still needed to watch out for standing water. By late morning the condition got a lot better and the GT3 was in its element. Wind remained high though and we could really feel its effect at the high speed back straight (long right hander). Another friend and his mate joined us after lunch so we took them out for some passenger rides; it was completely dry by then and it was brilliant fun.
I then had a session with an instructor at 3pm; I had hoped to be earlier but a Jaguar driver had hired the instructor for the whole morning. The session with the instructor really helped tidying up my lines thus my apex and exit speed improved. Then hailstorm arrived plus low fuel meant unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to go out again.

Anglesey is a great circuit and I hope to return soon. Thanks Barry for being our tour guide; it’s always great to have somebody local leading the drive so they know when to push and when to back off in case of police and cameras etc.

Re: North Wales meet & Anglesey, March 2019
No complaints from me

Wasn’t pushing hard at Oulton Park due to weather condition and not knowing the circuit, but tyres were pretty decent at Anglesey in the dry.
We were there filming the fly-by. On the third run, my friend (silver car) was leading, I backed off so Barry could take some nice photos, I came around the corner doing 30mph, saw the silver car stopped with a police car with flashing lights stopping beside him

My friend then pulled into the lay-by, then the police car waved me into the lay-by also, then the police bike arrived. It turned out they wanted us to stop ‘playing’ for a second so they could let some wide lorries through (wind farm being built near by).
The policeman’s a ‘car guy’, ex Nissan GTR owner; had met Jethro Bovingdon when he was there road testing; he said he would like a 911 next.
I took this below picture first; the policeman joked that it’s not his best side, so I took more from the other side. Really friendly gent.
