Disappointing for a bench run, I’d have wanted to see that manifold glowing as red as a slapped arse. All dyno and bench runs sound muffled anyway.
I would still want one of each though, technically the Mercedes is way more advanced and has all the pedigree with its championship winning engine. The Aston will be faster and sound better though.

Anyone else think it's a shame they a sticking such an awesome powerplant it something so completely compromised as the Valkyrie?
I hope it makes its way into a DB11R or another chassis that is more at home on the road.

I'm not sure how suitable an engine with a 10.5krpm peak power point will be for road applications?
Obviously they'll be able to run lower gearing than cars with lower rev ranges, but i wonder how tractable it will be towards the lower end

Yes. Since it revs to >11krpm and has a 7krpm torque peak.

I've watched the full video now rather than the initial clip of a door in a hallway baside the dyno cell that Henry originally posted on twitter. When you see/hear the engineering it is hard not to be excited about it to be fair. I agree that when it is in a car, with the full exhausts fitted it will probably sound pretty epic. Can't help but thinking it won't be a patch on the V12 in the La Ferrari though - that's a true Italian symphony.
Has to be thrown away at 60,000 miles though (well, totally rebuilt from the ground up including new pistons, etc.) and I think Aston were actually talking about some sort of a rebuild at 30,000 miles... Also would expect the race bred and thoroughly tested F1 engine in the Project One to be much more reliable, but obviously the fact they've gone naturally aspirated is amazing and to be commended.

Ferrari Superfastest's engine has peak torque at 7k as well. I don't recon with modern valve, ignition and fueling tech you really get non-tractable big capacity engines any more?

Rowan Atkinson put north of 40,000 on his McLaren F1 and a crazy Swiss dude who used one for daily commuting, over 80,000. I'm sure neither of those would have been particularly happy with a rebuild cost for an engine that would presumably be several £100k...
Yes, in 90% of cases I'm sure 30,000 will be enough but it yet another reason why this will presumably fester in a garage as the drop off in values for anything with over 10,000 on it would presumably be precipitous.

And if we’re going to stupid extremes the average F1 service costs £40,000 a year with a £100,000 fuel tank every 5 years so I don’t think someone who can afford a Valkyrie will give a crap if it needs a rebuild which will cost a few hundred grand after 5 years.
