This is the reliable 3.6 TDV8, rather than the less reliable 4.4 TDV8, according to Harry M, is it?

I'm going for expensive turbo or alternator on the Rangie.

Ooof. Sorry.

Is it definitely the turbo ? I went for a quick Google and the first useful thread (HERE) was a story of a broken turbo that was not really broken and it was actually the EGR valve.

Yeah I get that totally.

Maybe a false economy, but part of the reason we bought cheap - running costs don't get cheaper just because purchase price does.
It was an £85k car 10 years ago - and had done 126k miles, as a result it was always going to be expensive to run.

Swings and roundabouts - I could have dropped 10k on a lease for shopping trolley or bought 2 year old estate.

Am being as philosophical as I can about it! :D
Essentially as long as it doesn't present another whopping bill like this one in the next couple of years I'll be 'ok' with that.

I’d expect a turbo to go around that mileage, they are pretty much high mileage consumables.
How about not having a sig at all?

I suppose you’ve got to work out the equivalent monthly payments compared to the repair bills. Even though the repair bills will be large on their own it’s unlikely they’ll surpass the equivalent sum total of the monthly payments.

There are some good specialists who can swap the turbos in these. If it’s a body off job then I’d advise asking about getting some other preventative maintenance jobs done whilst they’re in there.

I had thought about a remap given that the reason for not doing it was turbos might blow up :) they chip well to 310hp apparently (from 270)

Turbo failure on the left bank, so it's getting 2 new ones as that's the done thing apparently.

a reassuringly expensive bill that's approx 2/3 of what it cost me to purchase the WHOLE CAR! :P
Meh.
2 bigger ones?
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

And a live remap on a rolling road.

I mean, if you're chucking a decent wodge of money at it, I can't see that adding to the bill too much in the grand scheme of things ;)
