Car amplifiers - evolving?

Brother in law needs an amp so I can wire in his old sub.
Car is a 2014 Hyundai i30, current head unit is the factory one that is very integrated with the dash/

Reading that, all I need to do is to tap into the rear speakers to get signal and then power and earth. I don't need to go digging to find a switched remote power?

I think that was a thing back in the day too, particularly at the more pikey end of the market (think unbranded anodised blue metal blocks that quoted their power in PEAK watts)

I've known about the speaker level inputs, it's the auto turn on that's a new one to me.

I'm sure it will be but I don't think the speaker feeds will be.
I suppose I'd better check on some i30 geek forum.

I dont think canbus will give a fuck about speaker level output. Ive just changed a blown speaker on the F31 and despite it farting away no errors were shown. Additionally on the golf i run the OEM HELIX upgrade which has an integrated digital amp that taps off the high level inputs and it works a treat (Actually sounds better that the optional Meridian setup in the Jaguar XF)

This was how i had to install my amp setup in my Ibiza that had an integrated headunit. Take the high level inpute from the speakers. I had limited success fromt that. I had a 4 channel amp that run the rear 7x10's and bridged 2 channels to run the sub. I found that with the high level input driving the speaker output it resulted in whine from the alternator being played through the speakers. Only solution i could find was to run the speaker off the headunit and sub channel in a parallel from the high level.

That however was old school analogue amps. Newer digital ones may be better (Such as the HELIX that i run in the Golf)

My home subwoofer has had auto turn on. It's a Mordaunt-Short from around 2010, the sense is on the incoming RCA line inputs, but seems to only be reliable at higher volumes. I would think speaker level inputs would be a much more reliable turn on source due to the higher voltages that can be used to activate the switch on circuit.
Also it seems these days the class d market has evolved massively. They draw much less power than their old class A, A-B and H counterparts. My current disco amp runs 4 channels which all run up to 750w RMS it's only 2U and weighs about 1/10th of the pair of class A amps I had. Also a much lower power draw too. Car stereo installers have never had it so good.
