Witney is entering the snowpocolipse.

Fortunately, I'm inside and the canteen is in the same building.

I need to look out of the window more. Don't recall seeing snow this week.

It was a very exciting half hour.

The shortest day is upon us, the solstice occurring at 10:23 tonight.
It's not quite a full moon at 99.1% illumination. The full Cold Moon is tomorrow evening at around 5:50.
The last time the December solstice and full moon happened less than a day apart was in 2010, and the next time will be 2029.

Also on the go at the mo' is the Ursid meteor shower. It'll probably peak tomorrow but they'll be around until about the 26th. From about 1:00 a.m. on is the best time to look for them, not that there're many at 5-10 per hour, and the brightness of the moon will probably blur many out*

That'll be wfh today then. I'd normally go out in that no worries but it seems every ither useless twonk has tried and have blocked all the roads up. So I'll be building snowmen with the wee one seeimg as snow of this quantity is rare around here

Like you I would have no issues going out in it, it's all the other numpties getting stuck, driving so slow they constantly get stuck or too quick and not stopping at junctions or behind you.

As with most driving issues, it's the total inability of people to look and think ahead of what they're doing instead of concentrating on 10ft in front of their car.

I was hoping for a bit to have a play in on the empty roads this morning, it was raining when I went to bed and no more than a light covering on the grass this morning.

The wife has a Swedish lady on her team, in Gothenburg. She drives an old Saab and was saying she'll go out in it later once the roads have quietened down so she can have some fun Totally different mentality (and ability obvs)

There's actually aboit 4-5" on the ground. The trouble is people using revs to get up hills and unable to grasp why they're not getting anywhere

But it goes back to the compulsory winter tyres and skid/ice training as part of the driving test. It only takes one numpty on worn out semi slick tyres to completely block a road.

I had a training day so I needed to be present for 0900 sharp, and being a sensible adult I decided to get up early and beat the inevitable clusterfvck in the NW. I woke to less than an inch of snow in the estate, my Civic drove out with very little issues and I crawled to work with no other concerns other than an Audi Q7 passing me like it was summer. At work I then proceeded to get FIVE people unable to make it to work, some just simple traffic mess, others by the frankly SHIT train network griding to a halt and all trains cancelled on the Chester line.

To reiterate, there was less than an inch of snow on the ground, main roads were clear. Total gridlock.

Oh and as an example of how bad the traffic was, Waze reckoned the quickest route from Runcorn to central Manchester was via Warrington Town Centre during rush hour.

Just as a counterpoint, Thurs hit 44C, dropped to 30C over night and Friday hit 45C - it was fucking brutal. My eyeballs dried out cycling home.

I tried that "Sandwich Bag filled with warm Water" hack that was doing the rounds yesterday to de-ice at 6:00 this morning.

It's really effective.... at converting frost into a thin sheet of solid ice.
