We’re currently renting another house whilst ours is being renovated (it’s a 70/80s built house I reckon). I was having loads of trouble sleeping when we first moved, I’d be waking at 3 or so not sure if I was hot/cold or what, just uncomfortable and stuffy.

I worked out I have to have a window open now and it’s pretty much solved it. Presumably this house doesn’t have very good ventilation or is perhaps far more “sealed” than my older house?

I love sleeping with the window open, MrsREV hates it, so we compromise and close the window.

Go to John Lewis, they have loads of tester duvets and you cannot feel a single feather, it’s just a really nice fluffy duvet. Ours we use in winter and summer and it’s around 9 or something. A dry clean once a year and it feels like new.

You have a 9 tog in the height of summer?!

4.5 here and I make sure that the winter 9 tog is on for as few months as possible. I get a lot of earache but it's worth it.

I hate a low tog quilt. Far happier regulating my temp by sticking limbs out of the covers.

1 leg and my arse out of the covers is a regular thing for me to get the temperature right. Also repels burglars.

I sleep face down on the left side of the bed, head under pillow, left arm hanging off the bad with my hand on the floor and same with the left leg to regulate my temperature. Can’t sleep in any other position.

I sleep for about 7 hours, but don't go to sleep until at least 1am. It works perfectly, cos I get a cuddle from daughter and a bye from son, plus my wife tends to bring me a coffee as they leave for school. :D

However, when I do get back from work and have been up all night, I do have trouble sleeping the next night. I've found that if I'm awake for more than 15mins, it's better to get up, fanny about for an hour (podcasts, xbox, trading) and then go back to bed.

The duvet thing: obviously, I've slept in many beds over the years, and weight can make a massive difference. Even simple things like having a sheet tucked in or not will change my sleep pattern and quality. So my advice is to change it up, it can work and what's the worst that can happen?
Cheers,

Ian

 Exactly the same here (apart from it's not MrsREV). Sometimes she lets me open it when my incessant fidgeting becomes more annoying than cool air.

Getting rid of the duvet for most of the year was one of the best things we did for our rubbish sleeping patterns. Most of the time we just have a collection of blankets and we take the ones we want. Saves her overheating through the night and me getting woken up when she kicks the duvet off the bed.

We still put the duvet on if it gets really cold.

Yep, I always run warm and am in shorts a lot, I wear just a t-shirt and overalls down to minus figures but with a 90% (I think) goose down quilt I never sweat, when the missus puts her leg over me or something I get too hot in minutes but with the quilt it’s fine.

I don’t know if it’s wicking it away or something but since we got our natural quilt about 8 years ago I’m fine.

Good quality duvet cover aswell, 100% cotton etc.

Our bedroom is in a loft conversion and with Velux windows on both sides, if there's even a slight breeze, it flows through the room. We always sleep with the windows at least on the vent setting.

Last night I went to bed at 8:40pm and slept until 6:30am. It was blissful to get a full nights sleep. I've just increased my B12 supplement and between that and the anxiety meds, I'm sleeping much better. If my 11 year old self could see me voluntarily going to bed before 9pm, he'd be disgusted.

Nath, you know down isn't feathers? There are obviously cheaper duvets with both feathers and down but it's worth finding the ones with just down. And paying a fortune... They're lovely but are not at all heavy so possibly the exact opposite of what you're looking for anyway.
