My wife wants a bank of 4 ovens when we do the kitchen. I have adequate time to persuade her this is pointless and two is plenty.

I know logic goes out the window with women and kitchens but do you foresee an occasion when 4 ovens would be needed ?

This will become a point of principal now so Simon best get saving for 6 ovens

Our built in microwave has started bursting into flames whenever it's switched on, so now begins the task of finding one that matches the built-in oven, only a year after it took ages to find a built-in oven that matched the microwave.

Do Aga make microwaves?

The BIG steel turned up this week - over a tonne of steel split into two sections to bolt back together in place (about 7.6m long). They manhandled it into the house - then the plan is to lift it each bit into position on 3 genie lifts then bolt together.

Other than that, electrics first fix is underway, plastering kicked off in the hall and front room and all the various openings etc formed.

I haven’t seen/noticed 4 ovens before, it’s usually 2 and then a steamer and microwave. Parents have that set up but I think it’s utter shit from my limited cooking experience as I much prefer having a single larger oven but I only chuck rubbish like pizzas in mine and don’t need to cook complex items at different temps.

There is no f---ing way I'm having a built-in microwave. I hate the things and they always seem to break, so a cheap Argos one in the utility room will be fine for the kids and their microwave meals

We're in the process of renovating the house. We've not done much in the last 7 years and it's in need of a refresh.

The old outside toilet was turned into a utility in the kitchen but had a damp problem. The scope had a bit of creep and we ended up gutting the kitchen. We got a new floor, replastered, knocked out the utility and built a kitchen to Kathryn's design.

I built a unit for a double belfast sink, adapted an old shop counter for the washing machine and tumble drier to live under and cut a massive unit in half on the street to be able to get it in the room, fitted it around the boiler and solar inverter and stuck it back together.

The dining room had the floor sanded and varnished and a new socket put in.

The next step is the lounge, hall and downstairs toilet floor. The lounge floor is a mess. Patches got replaced with ply after the downstairs was renovated in 2001 by a previous owner so we can't just sand the boards so instead I'm laying an insulating layer and then putting strips of ply down. I'm also taking the opportunity to run cat5 to the back of the telly/Xbox.

I'll pop some pictures up later.

Cat5 is max 100mbs. You'd be better off spending a few quid more and get Cat5e or Cat6 for Gig speeds.

I've done the same whilst the kitchen ceiling was down.

300 Mbps broadband to use smart functions on tv like browsing, netflix, youtude etc also proper full internet tv can't be far away.

I hate wires so wouldn't bother if i couldn't easily run them through the ceiling stud/walls. I've also run one upstairs to have an extra router or access point to provide strong wifi all around the house.

Both kids have an xbox and only watch on demand type internet tv, they have a meltdown if something buffers, poor internet coverage is child abuse if you listen to my kids
