I can tell you that in the UK construction industry you're not likely to hear people use the word 'truck' at all, it would just be a 'dumper' whether front or rear tipping. The only exception is 25t rear tipping dumpers which tend to be referred to as 'Moxys' regardless of brand.GG. wrote: Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:27 pm Related question for you - is it (a) a dump truck or (b) a dumper truck?
Ah, is that why he emigrated from Hawaii?
Our builders just called them artics when doing the driveway. It really is a whole new language they speak, gennies, wackers etc. A loader, regardless of brand is a JCB, even if it’s a tractor with a back hoe attachment. And then there’s stuff which I thought used to be forum joke speak/grammar such as referring to the wife as “the missus” and incorrectly constructed sentences which just seems to be how they speak. GG would have a field day.duncs500 wrote: Tue Oct 30, 2018 8:43 pmI can tell you that in the UK construction industry you're not likely to hear people use the word 'truck' at all, it would just be a 'dumper' whether front or rear tipping. Nobody else watched the sumo wrestling avidly on Ch4 back in the late 80s?
I don’t mind them what I really hate is the places that specialise towards trade. So B&Q or Wickes never sell good timber but there’s an independent lumber yard with sawmill which is about half the price and much better quality. The first time I asked for 2x4 in metric mm they just looked at me like I was a berk and labelled a Londonerduncs500 wrote: Wed Oct 31, 2018 5:32 am Oh how I would have loved to have seen you interacting with the guys doing your drive Mito.![]()
