May have discussed this before, but I loved the way Junkie XL did the drums for Mad Max
Rather than using key/velocity to increase/decrease the volume/impact/timbre of the drums, he mapped the various samples up and down the keyboard, so he could just transpose whole sections up/down to affect the velocity changes.
That was inspired - I'd not seen that before
