I did look a Caymans, quite a bit. And FTypes. But while the 981's look fantastic, I'm not convinced it's really "me". As for the FType....it'll be the V8 or nothing. And I can't afford a V8.

Twice I nearly bought an Alfa 4C. I missed out, and the prices are now +£5k on what they were 3-4 months back

Excellent choice. I’d rather have the Evora than 4C or F-Type. And 981 Boxster over Cayman (unless it’s GT4 of course).

Speaking of GT4 : I just found out that’s what’s Pete (Revsrus) replaced his E92 M3 with (rather than the 991 he was considering). Bright yellow.

Even weirder - I was running mik jr jr into town last Sunday evening in Mrs mik’s FPace (as he had his bass + amp with him) and was actually alongside Pete at one point in traffic - admiring his car. Even dropped the drivers window to hear it. Only realised when he sent me a pic the other day!

Admittedly a shame about the 4C as mainly you'd have made a few quid - but the Evora will be better and you know it Too early to ask for specs and pics?

And will it top another 600 miles in the your ownership? A record surely

Front dampers were “completely shagged” so fingers crossed!

Only seen one 4C ever, looked great, tiny almost S1 Elise sized but it sounded absolutely shite!

I think you’d just be disappointed with the 4C, I was also tempted but every review I read said they’re shit, I thought they would do an update and sort out the steering issues but it never happened. You could get £12k off a new coupe a year ago which made them the same price as most of the used ones.

Ah it's a tricky one Rich. It's a really great little car and i've genuinely really enjoyed commuting in it. Despite being a year where I owned the Superlight R, my best driving moment of 2018 so far would have to be a drive back from Hedge End, near Southampton along the A272 back home on the Friday of the Goodwood Revival. My route takes me straight past the circuit and I picked up the traffic leaving the event. I initially got behind two old boys in a Triumph Tr6, the driver really rowing it along as we came through Petworth. He turned off and I then got in a convoy behind an early, oval screen beetle and a caged track-spec looking MGB GT behind me. We played follow the leader for 30 miles or so of winding, NSL A road carving its way through a beautiful Sussex early evening. When i got closer to the beetle at a junction I noticed it also had a cage inside and whenever he opened the taps it absolutley fucked off. I'd then work with all of my effort to conserve momentum, brake as late or as little as possible and reel him back in until the next big acceleration zone. It was what fun driving is all about and when we all parted and went our seperate ways it was smiles and thumbs up all round. It's reminded me how much fun you can have in a car that's less capable, but where all the controls are so direct. Modern slow cars are shit rubbery, porridge filled things.

Anyway, I'd love to stick a V8 in it although it would in many ways ruin it. I'm being really sensible and practical though. I'm FINALLY lining up to start my building work and any and all spare cash will help as the quoted costs are eye-watering. Plus extra cars in the way will just become a pain. As soon as the house is sorted finances will be much easier and as soon as the new garage is built I already know what I'll be buying to stick in there as i have some unfinished business to attend to.

E46 330d Sport Touring

I've known Neil Mukerji for erm, 15 or so years now. When I first moved down to Sussex and owned an E30 325i Sport I went along to a local BMW Car Magazine forum meet. It's was full of lots of utter fucking weirdos. I made a few friends with the less weird ones and we decided to ditch the big meet and just go for a curry one evening. So about 10 of us have been doing that every month ever since. Neil likes curry more than anyone else i've ever met in my life and he's been a stalwart at the events. Neil used to contribute articles to BMW Car mag and his various BMWs have been the subject of 'staff fleet' type updates in there for years. So you can read about this car in the mags or on his website.

Recently my mate Ian Haynes bought a new 340i Touring so his very tidy e46 330d touring went off to live with Neil. I was out on the lash with him and tried to sell him my X5. Somehow I woke up the next day to found i'd bought his 330d instead. Must try harder. However it was very very £matesrates. So it's kind of just sat up the drive for a few weeks and other than an outing to give my 7 year old a driving lesson it hasn't been used. This week the X5 sold though so I pressed it into service and promptly found it had a flat tyre and a flat battery.



Jump start, trip to ATS for 2 new rears as one was punctured and the other had an egg and we're in business. It's a manual, Sport with a remap. It all kind of works really well despite 170k on the clock.

I'm booked on Rockingham in erm, 5 weeks or so and at the moment this is probably going to be my weapon of choice. I have some very cheap and some free ideas planned to make it slightly less shit as a track car.

My brother still has his imola red e46 330d touring. 7+ years on it must have north of 150k miles. Still goes well though.
