I’m not sure why you would be worried? You can’t infer speed accurately enough from a third parties dash cam and I reckon you’re not the type to weave in and out of traffic, make dodgy over takes, cut people up, be abusive and pick fights etc.

I bought a nextbase a while back and it's a bit shit.

It seems to think every pothole or minor bump in the road is a collision so saves it as an incident which means the loop won't record over it so the memory card is soon full, parking mode means you need to leave it switched on which the say not to do because it'll run the battery down, plus even tucked almost completely behind the mirror it's still really obvious from the outside and I wasn't very happy about leaving £150 worth of easy to remove camera sat in the window all the time.

Should have spent more time investigating a more hidden / integrated setup really

Short of showing all your mates what a wonderful driver you are by pointing out all the terrible driving on the road, I can’t image dashcams get much use

I don’t use them but it’s like airbags isn’t it? Useless 99.9% of the time but I’m sure you’ll be greatful you have it that one time you actually need it.

Blackvue here (although it’s currently not fitted to a car, because I changed my car and just never put it back in).

ditto, but I've been through a couple of cars since and not got around to it. At various times I've found the replacement sticky pad I bought, or the camera, or the power adaptor but never all at the same time.

Easy to do a neat install though, just tucking cable away behind trim. Hardwire using a piggyback fuse and the power adaptor can be hidden away too.

I originally bought mine when someone on the Skoda forums had a plank fall off an oncoming tipper right into his A-pillar and windscreen. Other driver didn't realise, didn't stop. Turned it from an expensive claim on his own insurance to an easy admission from the other driver's insurer, processed with no hassles. If they do similar for you then worth it IMO.

Been thinking about getting one since an Artic drove into my Mum's little fiesta on a Roundabout in Galway. He was in the wrong but if the Police hadn't been on site (Massive lorry blocking main Roundabout into town), he could have easily argued for knock for knock / 5050

Are they typically Sticky Pad or Suction cup ?? I change my car too often to have anything even semi-permanent.

Dinny, yes, if they’re not a suction cup then the camera bracket stays stuck to the sticky pad on the window and you can remove the camera from the bracket.

No. Unless your airbags have dash cams in them that could incriminate you.

My van has one with a front and rear camera all plumbed in - i haven’t tried it yet though - i expect it’ll be one of those things i get round to in about 6 months time!

Depends on budget, I got a Viofo based on numerous positive reviews on youtube. Viofo also have a good reputation for good customer service and firmware upgrades.

Well worth spending some time looking on youtube, there are a couple of prominent youtubers that do detailed road tests. One of the most important tests to check out is night time performance. Software is as important as hardware specs with damcams, which is why its important to check out road test reviews and not just rely on comparing hardware specs.

My old Nextbase has been ok tbh, occasional lock up and now the internal battery barely lasts the 30s over run, but camera is all good. It came in handy recently when a local twonk ran into the back of the Ioniq6. In light of that I'm probably going to get a rear camera as well now..
