Kizashi! I think I saw one, once. Buy one now and take it to Festival of the Unexceptional in 2036.JonMad wrote: Fri Oct 09, 2026 11:12 am I'm sat at the Suzuki garage getting the Swift serviced (having now owned is 6 years almost to the day) so today I fancy this oddity. 2.4 petrol, AWD, CVT, so completely wrong on all levels I know, and you may not have even heard of it, or seen one

Re: Today’s want
Friends of my parents brought an estate version of that one (or a large Fiat anyway) back from the States in the early 80s. After a few years on salty Danish roads the only thing holding it together was the paint.Jimexpl wrote: Fri Oct 09, 2026 11:52 amThat looks great. My Dad had a 2.0 Sport from new before I was born (as a company car), which he liked, but it was bought back by the dealer after 12 months because of how much rust was coming through already - I'm always impressed that there's enough of one left to restore these days!

I think mine was 5 or 6 years old when I bought it and surprisingly it was ok. Probably a bit of rose tinting going on as it did give me a few issues but I loved it

It is the prettiest of the modern(ish) SLs, I can see the allure.

I’ve fancied one of those for quite a while. And by a funny coincidence we saw my wife’s aunt & uncle last week who we’ve not seen in *ages* and they used to have one. I happened to ask about it - they don’t have it any more but he was quite wistful about it.

The only thing dating it, is the small screen for the (presumably useless) sat nav. Get rid or replace and it'll be just peachy.

Does the SL500 have the absurdly expensive air suspension though?
I get it's waftier...but I think I'd find a smidge more more and get an SLK55 and not worry about paying the same again in bills!

Yes, it's got the air suspension. The SL350 had normal springs and shocks.Matty wrote: Mon Oct 19, 2026 6:45 pm Does the SL500 have the absurdly expensive air suspension though?

Hopefully you can see this. Built LS7 engine in a Cerbera. 7.2 litres, he needs to update the badge. Nice video in the comments

Could you really live with a single temp for your and your passenger in 2026?

That is very cool and definitely fits the "treat the throttle pedal like it's a landmine".speedingfine wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2026 9:13 pm Build thread when it had an LS3...

Based on my sample size of 1 of Mercs from 2003, it will have rust and it will keep coming back however much you think you've treated it.Jimmy Choo wrote: Mon Oct 19, 2026 4:59 pm I appear to have suddenly become very old and am having dirty, dirty thoughts about this:

Left over crest; tightens.
Re: Today’s want
Does that year SL have the SBC braking system? Quite complex braking by wire system and the hardware has a certain number of brake applications before it needs replacing

Tbf I didn't read the.dumpster fire of a PH thread, I just saw the photo of the guys in the boot at the rolling rosd and the fact it did 200mph at Bruntingthorpe!Jimmy Choo wrote: Wed Oct 21, 2026 1:16 pmThat is very cool and definitely fits the "treat the throttle pedal like it's a landmine".speedingfine wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2026 9:13 pm Build thread when it had an LS3...

Re: Today’s want
If it's the air suspension it's not expensive at all, a new pump is a few hundred and Arnott airbags are relatively cheap.Matty wrote: Mon Oct 19, 2026 6:45 pm Does the SL500 have the absurdly expensive air suspension though?

We've done airbags and a pump in 107,000 miles, car on 167,000.
It's the ABC which I believe is expensive but I would expect there to be independents doing overhauls and not just replacements by now.

Re: Today’s want
It’s the same with X5s, everyone cries when the 20 year old air suspension plays up.
A pump rebuild kit is about £40, rear bags about £100, front struts about £150 each. All easy to diy for anyone with a few tools.
Instead they’ll spend hundreds on a spring conversion kit, suffer worse ride, no self levelling for heavy loads / towing, and complain there’s a permanent suspension failure error on the dash.

Re: Today’s want
That's lovely. MOT history shows it's not really been used since 2010 and viewings in Birmingham (it's outside City Electrical Factors in Newtown in the photos) doesn't fill me with confidence.
Re: Today’s want
Lovely but I'm unable to proceed due to the wiper position
