Spoke to the breeder at the weekend. She's an elderly lady who clearly isn't techno savvy. A bit like JL.

Anyway, we asked her to send us photos of the 4 pups (we're not allowed to visit till week 6, which is in 2 weeks time).

What followed were 3 photos, 2 of which were clearly of the same pup and a third which probably is. Anyway, here is one of them.

Pup2.jpeg

Literally cannot wait to meet them in 2 weeks time. The o/h is going to cry when she meets them. It's gonna make her so happy! 8-)
We seen the pups at just over a week old. Why no visits?
Apparently Mum is very possessive of the pups and she likes to leave them settled as much as possible. They've had their first injections now, but other than that she's trying to not to disturb them where possible. Whether that's 'normal' or not I don't know, but she's very well known in the area and the neighbours dog who comes from same breeder and same Mum seems a lovely, happy, little chap.

I’d say that’s the total opposite of what you want to do. Should be socialised as early as possible.

Google'ing around there's a bit of debate on the issue (I'm NADG BTW). It seems to be socialise with dogs as much as possible, but humans need to wait a few weeks. I can see your POV though, certainly. We'll see, obvs, when I get down there in 10 days. Hopefully they're happy to be held and played with.

Ultimately it’s up to the breeder so you’ve gotta go with what they want. We took the dog with us but definitely didn’t take her in the house with the pups. We left her in the car. But they did bring the mum dog out to meet her minus any pups.

Breeder sounds like a PITA

I'm sure the pup will be worth the hassle anyway though.

Gave mine a bath today.

He loves a bath.

On the basis that he did ‘a JL’ with a Cocker Spaniel and got her pregnant I would say that confirms he is genetically a dog.

Pupdate

So we know it's not the girl in the middle with the white stripe on her head (who's going to the breeder's friend), nor is it the boy (who she's keeping, although I can't remember which one that is in the photo above).

So you still don’t know which puppy you’re going to get? Breeder deserves a smack.

Aye. It's one of the 2 remaining from what's described above.

So we went to see them yesterday and had a chat. The thing to remember is that she isn't breeding these dogs to sell. This litter is to continue her lineage of CKCS. She's on her 23rd generation of the dogs, and many are top winning dogs. So she's keeping the boy and a girl for the next lines and the one with big white on her head goes to her breeder friend (identified as not the best show dog I think), and we'll get the fourth.

She hasn't decided which of the remaining two girls she's going to keep along with the boy. It depends how she stands, whether she raises her tail etc. Apparently 6 weeks old is too young to be able to tell. Yes it's frustrating, and yes we don't care about any of that 'show' stuff at all. We just want a pup!

Should know in the next few weeks.

That’s totally not how it should work. I’d be tempted to fuck her off and keep looking. We got the pick of the whole litter when we got penny and we had 3 to pick from when we got Skye.

You should be able to pick.

Rich - Yes and No. When she first new they were on the way she said we'd be 'first in line'. The reality hasn't quite panned out like that though..

Thing is we've been looking for a year and none of these pups are 'bad' so whichever we end up with will be a good'un. Plus they're all health-checked and from a strong line, so less likely to have some of the things that CKCS can suffer from.

Scott - She's said she isn't doing this to sell them, just for herself, so that's how the chips fall I suppose.
