The AI Thread
Re: The AI Thread
Have you thought about wearing a red shirt, black cap and getting your teeth whitened? Don’t forget to pull a face like you’re mid way through crimping one off

Yes, all the time
There's some weird colour psychology behind the fact that some of the most successful thumbnails have red and blue as the most dominant colours on them. I go for green because I refuse to optimise every last thing in the name of clicks.

Australia's PM Anthony Albanese said on Thursday that the AI agent "infiltrated" a statistics portal containing private data from Australia's universal healthcare scheme. He alluded to "three other systems that may be impacted" but did not elaborate
The breach happened in June but Open AI only became aware of it in August. It notified the government via an email, external to a general inbox on 10 September
OpenAI says it found no record of patient data being accessed, but Albanese says he told OpenAI CEO Sam Altman the company took "way too long" to inform Canberra of the breach
In response to the hack, Australia has launched a rapid review to examine whether existing legislation is sufficient in dealing with AI
This is believed to be one of the world's first known AI-led hacks of a government website. It comes as world leaders and AI firms themselves call for regulation amid fears the industry's development is speeding out of control

Brilliant

I don't know which is a bigger reason for discounting the candidate...
"Using SI (*) to craft a lie to get out of an interview" or "not knowing how to Copy and Paste"...

Re: The AI Thread
Both are massive red flags
It's mad how much people rely on it for personal stuff. I was chatting to someone about how much info is required to complete Autism/ADHD assessment forms, there's literally hundreds of questions which dive into your entire life. They said "Just get ChatGPT to do it"
I had to explain to them that unless you're using AI to help you because of your ADHD, then that's a genuinely terrible idea

Thus invalidating any diagnosis and at the same time, confirming ADHD...

This has tickled me:
Re: The AI Thread
A light bit of light fun: How AI techbros seem incapable of interpreting the fiction in any way that actually reflects the messages of works they claim to love and respect and understand.
Re: The AI Thread
Really want to start a 'not sure if it's AI' thread, but absent that...

Wild. I definitely need more of Mario running around in a halo universe.

AI plays the reverse card on corporate greedy bastards trying to extract every penny from customers. Finally things are looking up

Re: The AI Thread
I mean, the problem is that a lot of these decomps etc are being made by people who have no fucking idea what they're doing. And no idea how to secure software. And vibecoded code without oversight is well known to be swiss cheese from a security perspective. This is the opposite of the early decomps etc where someone worked on it for years, and knows the project inside out, and knows how to restrict it's permissions, etc.
And games, as an example, have input hooks.
I give it about a week after a major, popular release before someone updates the code to have a rootkit in it that goes around stealing payment details.
I genuinely cannot stress enough how you should not touch a lot of these 'projects' with a fucking barge pole.

You've probably seen this one already, and it may belong more in the music thread, but in case you haven't...

Re: The AI Thread
The irony it's all made with AI
I'm currently reading The Convenience Trap by Michael Gerlich which is all about how we are losing our ability to work through the tough part of problem solving, starting with a blank page, or negotiating through bad, mad or leftfield ideas. It's a bit ponderous, but interesting stuff nonetheless. It's pointing to people getting answers quicker, while not really understanding the epistemic basis of that answer, which doesn't necessarily result in a good outcome, even if you get there far more efficiently.

Remember kids, don't let them socialise the trillions in debt they've accrued with nothing to show for it.
