The UK work is drying up massively so there is less point in having a UK arm of the business. Whatever way you look at it that is less UK tax money coming in.

If we decided that Lawyers earn too much and we should tax them a higher percentage, would you not be annoyed that you were paying a much higher percentage than other people for zero gain ?

What if you ran a firm with 100 employees and decided to start up again in Norway and pay less. Who benefits apart from you as the government doesn't.

Personally, if you employ people and bring in a lot of business, I think your level of tax should go down the more work and jobs you bring in. Incentivise building a business in the UK and use the people we have over here.

I’m not sure I understand your point Dave. You want some industries to be exceptional? Why? Law firms and lawyers already pay the same rates as other businesses and individuals.

If you move your business to a different country then you pay your taxes there instead, provided you do actually move rather than pretend to. But you have then left the U.K. so shouldn’t have any say in what the U.K. chooses to do.

Compare Dyson, Ratcliffe et al to Denise Coates. She runs a business which is very easy to offshore yet she doesn’t and consequently is, I believe, the single biggest taxpayer in the U.K.

This is giving me flashbacks to my CIB banking exams years ago

One of the questions was about a Brazilian footballer who plays for a UK club, but is paid through an LLC in another country - where does tax gets paid?

What I mean is we should incentivise business to be in the UK.

If it's cheaper for your business to move to say Ireland, do you then pay whatever tax you should pay in Ireland, employ Irish workers then the UK loses out.

If you employ people, pay their wages and contribute a good amount of tax I see no reason why as an owner you should t have some kind of tax reduction whether it be business rates or your own personal tax bill. If you employed 100 lawyers in your firm and directly owned and ran the company, you can pay NI and that's it imo, you've more than done your bit.

I always look at tax like this, rightly or wrongly, that a tax payer is a customer of the government. The government should want to keep customers if you can earn from them. F you give me a large amount of business then you get a better price, which in this case is a lower tax bill.

We pushed the billionaire Chris Rokos away and lost £330,000,000 a year in tax. He was a huge tax payer for years from what I understand of the interview I saw.

So we want his £330m in tax but it's not ok for him to increase his wealth at the same time?

The guy’s probably thinking why the hell he paid £330m per year here for a few years. He’d have £4+ billion in the bank if he moved to Dubai instead 😂

No I'm saying that we shouldn't be held to ransom by selfish cunts who just want more money to throw on the pile.

I’m liking the idea that actually it’s all an MI5 op to “encourage” the US out, without causing a diplomatic palaver by doing it officially.

Sadly, I don't think MI5 would be that imaginative. They are, at the end of the day, civil servants with knobs on.

We're not customers of the state. We are citizens and our taxes is what funds the services and functions of it.

I don't understand the logic of offering a discount on taxes because you've been successful and (maybe) become wealthy. Why should they contribute less than everyone else? Say the founder of the company gets to avoid tax, what about the designer that designs the products that ensures there's something to sell, or the salespeople that sell it? The founder may have started the company, but they wouldn't have gotten as far as they have without all the people that work for them. Don't they deserve a discount too?

It is effectively reinstating an upper class/nobility that get to play by a different set of rules to the rest of us. We already have far too much of that, so let's not compound it.

No it's incentivising people to start and grow a business.

Nearly every business incentivises you to stay, points, discounts, initial discounts etc. it's like people don't want people to become wealthy, if it helps everyone it's much better than helping the individual. Pushing people away who either create or manage work and bring money into the country is a very silly thing to do.

We should be offering big discounts on people providing work for others to help the business be a success so we can also get the rewards of their success by their tax in the future.
No tax on your first year in business, or something similar, may help more business growth.

That one chap paying tax paid the average of 27500 people, he has contributed a huge amount to the country and now everyone, even the lowest earners, need to pick up that slack.

Still missing the point that countries aren't businesses and shouldn't be run as such.

Not missing the point at all, countries want to financially flourish and this helps. A country 100% is a business, outgoings shouldn't be greater than incomings. If you restrict the incomings, which is available tax, you are screwing yourself.

You're categorically wrong, trying to run a country like a business is one of the primary reasons we're in this mess.

The government offloaded as much of the stuff that costs money as possible and now all that stuff is fucked, to everyone's detriment.
