Car temperature fools

Normally we leave ours at 21, unless its incredibly hot and we didn't put the windscreen shade up.

But......I use airport taxis at least 12 times a year and notice the following....

People who turn it off completely, who needs air in the car.

People who then panic when you ask for some air in the back, they then turn it at max speed at full hot or full cold, depending on the time of year.

Ones who see you adjust the speed up, down, temp up, temp down etc. Then instantly notice youve turned it in that direction and decide to go full fan or full temp.

Any taxi driven by someone born in a hot climate, 25 degrees is not a sensible uk car temp.

Ones who instead of waiting 30 seconds to de-mist, instead rub the windscreen giving themselves a smeary view out for the rest of the day.

Anyone getting into a car with a wet coat and then wondering why the car is misting up.

Air Con is set to Low (16 degrees) for 11 months of the year - I may allow 18 degrees in the depths of winter but only in the mornings. During the day - it's Low... always

My Dad always collects us from Dublin Airport when we go home and as soon as we get into the car, he sets the heater to 28 and the fans to full - even though for the past 25 years, I've immediately had to remind him my other half suffers from migraine so he has to turn it down.

there are only 2 radiators in our 4 bed house that are not isolated OFF . The living room and my sons room, And heating won't go no now until at least mid November and then, for no more than an hour each evening

This is a perennial problem with London uber drivers who pretty much always have the a/c and sometime all the climate turned to off to save 1mpg. Pretty irritating if you're in an Uber Exec and paying through the nose for it. Typically being English I rarely complain.

The hybrid black cabs are terrible for it too. Middle of the heatwave I get into the cab which must be 40 degrees and ask him to turn the AC on. He says he can only do it for a bit as it kills the range on his car

Between the radicalised Uber drivers who can’t drive and the rip off black cabs I can’t wait for Waymo or some other self driving cars to get legalised.

That sounds like our house in the winter, but we have the fire going all day and it's a toasty 23 degrees in the living room, aka sleepy town

I'm happy at 18-19C but do find 'Low' in a car with climate control to be uncomfortable. It just sets it to the lowest possible temperature output and turns off all of the control system in the climate control which seems a bit pointless.

I grew up in a house my friends Christened “The Nursing Home”. Central heating going full blast, AND a roaring fire in the living room. It would put you to sleep within 10 mins. It was horrible.

We have friends like this. It's fine when visiting if you remember to take an extra layer or two, and hellish if you don't.

Jumped in the Smart this morning - a/c was all the way to cold and the system switched entirely off. Windscreen fogged up before I realised So it now appears min/max + full fan off/on to further control.

I've never been a fan (I thank you... ) of climate control in cars. Maybe I've only ever driven cars with bad implementations of this but in my experience, it tends to blast very hot or very cold air until it arrived at the desired temp which is not what I want. I'm not trying to make the car 16 degrees - I just like a gentle 16 degree breeze to flow.

For most of the winter, the setting are Temp = Low, Fan Speed 2 and direction, up on the windscreen only.

This is AFTER I've demisted it automatically using the App feature (which admittedly will warm the car up a bit before I get in). Rather Ironically, I do like the heated seats and headed steering wheel and on very cold days, both will be deployed while the temp is still set to Low.

Go Figure ?? but then again, it is me so you know, loose connection to logic and all that.

What's coming out of your vents should be 6-7 DegC if your system is healthy. The 16 DegC you see on your screen is of course irrelevant as you turn the fan down and prevent the system reaching that set point.

If I set the climate to 21 DegC and the temp inside the car is 11 DegC, then yes I want it to work hard until it's reached 19-20 DegC and then level off to reach the set-point softly.

If I set the climate to 21 DegC and the temp inside the car is 31 DegC, then yes I want it to work hard until it's reached 22-23 DegC and then level off to reach the set-point softly.

Out of interest - do you use Cruise Control?

On longer Motorway and A Road Dual Carriageways then yes - absolutely. Set to 75 mph.

If I'm driving in an urban area I'm not familiar with, I also use the speed limiter function because I have to constantly monitor signs and lanes and "Bus only between 07:03 and 09:00" signs and a myriad of other things to watch for.

The only concern for colder houses can be damp. We run a cold-ish house, but also run a dehumidifier during winter - and also the German process of "Stoßlüften" most mornings as well.

Didn't realise how bad it was, but since this the last few years I've had small micro cracks appearing in the plaster as things have been drying out . Humidity used to be 75ish, but now hovers below 60 for the most part.
