AI reminds me of the trend for outsourcing to India. Which works fine until it doesn’t.

There are tasks it can do and tasks it can’t.

Unfortunately the list of tasks it can't do is getting shorter by the day, and the things we didn't even know it could do is growing at all exponential rate. It is genuinely scary, not least because there is effectively zero accountability.

My new job is supporting an AI project, but thankfully I don’t need to do any AI stuff myself.

Likewise I use Claude to adapt existing code in Python or Matlab to my own data and needs. Works well. Not as good at writing code de novo, and I think you do need to have a little bit of code knowledge to bug catch and a little bit of domain knowledge to know if it is actually doing what it says.

Huge time saver though.

I would update this comment to say that it can, under supervision, code de novo now.

Also there are loads of job opportunities training various aspects of AI in healthcare at the moment to analyse CT scans, MRI, ECG etc.
The changes so far have been that they have simply made doctors' jobs easier/more productive and have yet to really replace anyone.

I’m enjoying this critical juncture that we appear to be at with headlines one day that AI will cure all human diseases and then the next day we’re told that it may kill all humans. Then again in both scenarios you are getting rid of all human diseases.
