I haven't managed to watch one of these yet but seems like I should give it a go.

I watched most of the first episode. First GT episode I've ever watched (not a Clarkson fan).

It felt a bit forced, but..... scripted stuff inevitably does. It wasn't offensively forced, so I'll stick with it.

I did get annoyed that Thomas was going on about how the Corvette didn't sound like an American V8, didn't sound like other Corvettes, it sounded like a European V8, but at no point mentioned the phrases flat-plane or cross-plane. Is that considered too techy for the target audience?

I thought he did mention that, which I remember because I thought it was nicely geeky.

i randomly watched ep6 first, i quite liked it. i find myself rooting for Francis to be good because he’s an actual car nerd - the other two are known quantities for presenting car stuff, so i’ve just accepted they’ll do the job well..

His choice of car in episode 2, I think, seemed like it was actually his choice as he drives an old Merc SL in real life.

Watched ep1 last night. It felt much less forced than the Top Gear reboot and I enjoyed it overall.

I can see Francis getting annoying over time, though - he has great enthusiasm but just comes across a bit too much like a ten year old boy (spoken from someone who has one of those...). Also they don't have anyone with the gravitas of Clarkson with regard to scriptwriting but the continued presence of Wilman will help.

Well, I had never heard of them but have rarely watched Youtube vidoes, now watched 2 and quite enjoyed them. Only recently got access to GT so have been watching from the start, seems very samey but with more swear words, some genuinely great stuff, and some awful.

Hopefully the new guys will change it up a bit.

I watched episode 4 last night (restomods and toughest car) and think it's getting better. The trailer for episode 5 looks very much a copy of the old TG races from 25 years ago but I did laugh at James on the bicycle.

I'm not sure I prefer it to Throttle House; it does feel like Clarkson/Hammond/May era but with three new presenters, and they fill that role perfectly well, but Throttle House feels like their own thing and being a Youtube channel has snappier content, more modern-feeling aesthetics (not as indulgent or spectacular as you get with big budget TV stuff, but that's been done for so long it's not special now) and generally feels like Thomas and James being themselves in an unforced way.

I kind of feel the opposite really. I think part of the allure of TG II and TGT I was it is part televised Paul Theroux travelogue with three buffoons that made you laugh. That said I haven't really watched much if any Throttle House but I think that was becuase the snippets I did see just didn't draw me in because as hosts they were not immediately interesting enough, unlike say a Jason Cammisa or Chris Harris.

These three are not - at least immediately - going to hit the heights of wisecracking, humour and camaraderie the prior three had (which is better not forced in the way Harris, Flintoff and McGuiness felt) so having some visual drama looking at the jungles of southern Malaysia / KL definitely adds to the experience in my view (I watched ep2 last night, which resonated given we went to KL last year...) . Having the undercurrent of the Wilman scripting also gives it a continuity that helps it feel a genuine continuation of what went before so I don't mind that lots of segments feel like a direct rehash of TG skits.

Ironically after only 1 further hour of viewing time, I've completely done a volte face on on Bourgeois. I think actually he may well carry this. Englemann probably the weakest so far. Look forward to changing my opinion again after ep3!

I'm with you on James being the weakest. It feels like Thomas has been given the serious role and most voiceovers, Francis is the nerdy one who it turns out can drive and James has been made a less serious joker role which isn't really him - he's usually much drier with his humour on Throttle House. So he's the one who feels like he's been forced into a role slightly. Hopefully as he gets comfortable in it he's allowed to be himself.

James has his MX5 wrapped the same colour as mine so I will always defend him

Anyway, they all love cars and have a good deal of knowledge which is a nice change from the TG reboots

I thought it was generally good apart from the last episode although nothing special. As usual the locations and great cinematography lift the whole show. Although the last episode was pretty dull.
It’s totally different to Throttle House for me, the former is an actual car show whereas this is just entertainment with cars thrown in. However it’s slightly annoying how much of a hit the Throttle house output has taken in exchange for 6 episodes of this.

I'd agree with that difference from Throttle House, though they have done a few buy a car each and go on a trip things on Throttle House in the past.
