The Cats are good too thread

I had a lovely Hamster as a child. I think they only have a life expectancy of a couple of years so it’ll be a proper introduction to mortality too.

Mine was a long- haired grey Syrian hamster with black eyes, fur which looked like a rug behind him and massive testicles. They will try to pull anything near their cage in and chew it (towels and spider plants being particular favourites of mine until I moved him far enough away. He loved his exercise wheel but it made an awful noise at night when he was running on it.

As for taking up a lot of space, nah - complain when you have to buy a 4000 sq ft house to accommodate your cats

Yeah, we got a hamster last christmas - funny enough also named Hammy. She’s been pretty easy so far though i don’t really get too involved - it’s definitely shown me i have no real interest in having pets!

We bought the cage and a load of parameters used, including a wheel. It was very noisy, so have now bought a silent one. All you can hear is the click click of his nails when he's running in it.

When we had a hamster many moons ago we had a wheel like this, always seemed more natural than a vertical one to me and the hamster loved it

It has really floored me. We’ve lost several cats over the years, and while all sad, none have been like this.

These are just a few clips going back a couple of years, as you can imagine there are many many more.

He was in a segregated special behaviour room at the rescue centre, we’d gone to look at another cat who turned out to have a medical issue not disclosed on their website. He jumped up at the window when we walked past, rolled over on the sill and fell off Rescued from a flat in Hammersmith, we like to think he enjoyed his time here.

He was 14, but up until last weekend when it became clear something was wrong you never would have guessed.

He’s gorgeous. Cats find you. So sorry for your loss Harry I still have the odd tear about my Jasper who died in 2017 even though I have plenty of other cats to love.

He was a bit dozy and off his food Sunday, then we found a pigeon in the garden that had been hollowed out.

It wasn’t unusual for him to either scrap or hunt / scavenge and be a bit off for a couple of days so didn’t think much of it. Didn’t seem to be hurting, grumpy, or anything, just very sleepy. Then he started not being able to jump down from things, breathing got heavier, still not eating anything other than a few of his favourite treats he went to the vets and never came back.

I guess we’ll never really know what it was, and will always have the guilt of wondering if we should have taken him in sooner.

The hardest bit at the moment is literally everything reminds you of him.

Go down in the morning and the first thing you’d do is open the dining room door and hold his scratch post while he had a scratch and stretch. Put the kettle on while he rubbed around your legs, then pick up his bowl to give him his meat. Look out of the window to where he used to sleep on the back of my car. Walk up into the garden and there’s no little footsteps on the gravel following you.

We managed to last a full week without one. Incredible how empty the house felt without one!

So this is Sunny. Not my choice of name, ( which would have been Dave, Gary, Kevin or similar ) but I allowed it on the condition he would have my surname. So it’s Sunny Crockett, in honour of Sonny Crockett from Miami Vice

Only 9 weeks so still very small. Noticing changes already!

I would happily have had any old rescue moggy, but the mrs wanted a little one as it’s been 30 odd years since she last had a kitten. We’d like to get it used to travelling while young so we can take it when we go to the barn for the weekend etc.

Just fed my stepdaughter’s cats while she’s away this weekend. The youngest has just turned 1 and is still very kittenish. Enjoy the kitten time, it seems to disappear very quickly.

Ours comes away with us when we are walking or having a relaxing holiday. She goes on a lead when suitable and feels relaxed at pubs etc as Hutch is with us too. Definitely nice being able to bring her with us. She even came on the broads with us for a day.
