Jimmy Carr is perhaps one of entertainments greatest Paradox's (if that's the correct term)

His stage persona is very crass, at times, very cruel (although I'll be honest, I find him funny). But if you seem him talking seriously about anything, (see for example, the Steve Bartlett pod cast), he's incredibly insightful, knowledgeable - almost 'wise' in the old school meaning.

He talks a lot of sense when he's not being "Jimmy Carr"

His serious monologues sound like he's trying too hard to be taken seriously and not like he really believes them or came up with them himself.

I saw him live at a corporate do just after the tax avoiding scandal and he was funny at that, so he's canny about knowing his audience. I subsequently went to see one of his live tour shows and it was mostly trying to press buttons to shock and nowhere near as appealing to me. Watching him on telly he comes across as more of a robot version of Stephen Mulhern (who I hate) when presenting. Both of them give vibes of hiding something dark beneath, as if one day when they get outed like Philip Schofield or Huw Edwards I would be unsurprised, but I suspect neither actually is

He did post some quite decent times in the reasonably priced car, and almost rolled it over the finish line once if I remember

I think the problem for me is that, unless there's a format departure, TG relies on authenticity to create that sort of group chemistry both in the studio and out and about.

Whilst I agree that Jimmy Carr can be funny and also insightful, neither of those acts really come across as authentic. I can't quite picture it, he's kind of wooden in the way he talks.

With the last three, you might not like them or think they're funny, but I think it was clear that they were acting at least fairly close to their true personality which gave some level of chemistry.

I'll remain open minded. Would be great to see CH back.

Not so sure about his more serious monologues as he's clearly repeating pieces from a lot of self help books he's read. As Simon has pointed out, it's not his own words or beliefs, he's just well read but it doesn't come across as congruent.

It's a bit harsh no ? - I mean he's not a psychiatrist or professes to be a self help guru with all the answers. Where do we all get our views on this sort of thing but from the writings of others ??

I don't mind views being influenced by the work of others, in fact I find it very helpful. I still read and listen to a lot of that genre.

It's when it's almost verbatim repeated instead of coming from your own experience. You can tell when some is being authentic and talking from their own life instead of repeating something they've read from someone else's.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Jimmy Carr and think fundamentally he's a good guy. I'd just prefer if he either stuck to the comedy (where he is authentically himself) or if offering advice, talk from his own experiences.

Rumours in The Sun that it's being rebooted with Jimmy Carr. Missed a trick by not making a series called 'Jimmy Carr's Cars' if they do that.

I found an interview where he says his cars are an investment; no sign of him being a real car person. Also he'll be utterly wrong doing TG; he's either telling jokes or trying to shock and neither of those particularly fit.

Confirmed. I still think they should remake Drivers Republic and put Bov and Meaden in with Harris

I like Jimmy Carr, but knowing a bit about cars and having some nice cars doesn’t mean you’re going to be good on a tv program about cars.

Chris Evans was the perfect example of that.
