Lag on laptop.
Lag on laptop.
My laptop has started taking an age to do things, e.g. click a drop down menu and it might open 5 seconds later. I've run malware and virus scans but noting shows. It's not ancient at 5 years old, it's a Core i5 with an SSD. Any suggestions? Processor failing?
Re: Lag on laptop.
Control Alt Delete, Task Manager and see what's using up all the CPU and / or memory.

That's the thing, nothing shows.JLv3.0 wrote: Mon Oct 01, 2018 10:29 am Control Alt Delete, Task Manager and see what's using up all the CPU and / or memory.
Re: Lag on laptop.
The CPU might be throttling right back to manage heat. Does the task manager show the CPU running at the correct speed?
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.
Re: Lag on laptop.
It says the base speed is 2.30Ghz and it's running around 2.17Ghz
Re: Lag on laptop.
Not meaning to be condescending (which means I talk "down" to people) but you are sorting on CPU or memory usage, rather than listing by task alphabetically?

OK mate, had to ask. It's impossible to know what the asker is basing their question on without asking the basics.
Haven't got a clue then; you'll need a real IT'er to help!

It's changed now, from taking an age to open drop down boxes they now appear for a split second then vanish! Think it's fooked!JLv3.0 wrote: Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:38 am OK mate, had to ask. It's impossible to know what the asker is basing their question on without asking the basics.

Re: Lag on laptop.
Try Ctrl+Shift+Windows+B - it'll reset the video card. Might be your driver is old/fucked.

Re: Lag on laptop.
I know it's not the problem in this case, but I've lost count of how many people's computers I've 'fixed' over the years by popping the side off and blowing vast amounts of dust out of the cpu coolertim wrote: Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:16 am The CPU might be throttling right back to manage heat. Re: Lag on laptop.
Indeed, I'd never heard of it. Interestingly it kept reverting back to the problem after a few minutes, a driver check said it was the current driver and no updates were available but further digging found a newer version that has sorted it.
