Judging by the tyres, I’d say used as intended. 8-)

(Further along the road I noticed a random car with its road-side exterior mirror cap tucked under the wiper. Appeared to be a case of Sorry mate - knocked this off squeezing past - returning to you. )

A Revuelto. The keen eyed among you will notice the police officer preparing to drive it up the trailer to impound it.
Other impounded cars on trailers were some arab G Wagens and a Urus. Bit weird that they can’t afford to insure their cars.
How about not having a sig at all?

Wonder if it is less about affordability and more about not knowing/caring.

Yeah it’s the latter, also I remember reading a lot of the Arab royal family are also diplomats so I wonder if many of them can just whip out the diplomatic immunity card and be excused.

I always wonder if impounding is cheaper than secure parking

It might have changed since I ran a dealership on Park Lane ('06-08), but only specialist brokers would touch them because they were effectively in residence here, rather than passing through on holiday. I remember ony guy being asked for about £15k to cover his Z06 from Dubai, so he just bought one from us instead to use in the UK for the summer, paid about £500 insurance, then put it on a plane back home in September.

Until recently you could self insure in the UK with a £500k deposit. I'm unsure on the details if that covers per vehicle or per person but pretty sure you only needed to do it once and could then rely on that deposit for future use.

A few cars have been impounded this week uninsured so potentially they were using this route and no longer have access to it.

Abolished with effect from 1 November 2019: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2019/1047/made
The explanatory note alongside it is probably more readable (pdf link): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/201 ... 047_en.pdf

With a 2 year run out for those with existing arrangements. I'd previously read it was a 5 year run out which seems incorrect.

I can't imagine normal cover would be available for these cars being flown over for 6 weeks with no MOT, ved and so on. It's bizarre that it happens!

A beetle based beach buggy earlier, in a light green, kind of a bit shabby.

I’ve seen plenty at shows and events over the years, but it’s the first I’ve seen on the road amongst traffic, looked pretty mad. Strangely bigger than you expect them to be too.

I’d still have one in my collection, but only after owning a Baja beetle 😄
