yep, and we agree with you that that’s clearly an impossible task, so maybe there’s more to it too (from the man who’s consistently lied about everything over the last decade to manipulate the value of his companies).DaveE wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 7:24 pmMy point wasn't really anything to do with licences, bandwidth or anything like thatRich B wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 6:51 pmAs Mito says, if there’s only a finite number of licenses/space for satellites and Spack x buys up most of them with their limitless magic money tree (whether they use them or not), then a competitor would have to go via them to buy enough licenses to make a viable business. Spack X controls the market.
It was more that to maintain a fleet of 100,000 satellites (where they're constantly falling back to earth) is pretty much impossible - as I said, it would require more than 100 new satellites to be launched every single day, continually, to replace those falling back to earth

I think we're giving Musk too much credit if we think there's more to it (than simply more Musk bullshittery that doesn't stand up to even a little actual scrutiny)
Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
A bit like his in-space refuelling 'plans' with have been charitably described by industry experts as 'near impossible' and less charitably described as about as likely as a million teslabots by the end of 2026, FSD by the end of 2016/2018/2019/repeat till fade, etc etc.
Still waiting on that Mk2 Tesla Roadster announced, er 2017, with 10,000 to be on the road in 2020 and like cold fusion, every year it's just two years away.
That anyone with an IQ above room temperature believes anything he says - like, at all, not just on political stuff - genuinely staggers me. At this point, it's your own fault when people mock you for it.

Doesn’t the space refuelling plan have to work for NASA to have any chance of sending people to the moon again?
I can’t tell at this point who the bigger cork in the bottle is between SpaceX, Blue Origin or Boeing. They all seem equally in the shit

I've been following Starship quite closely for a few years now, and there are huge parts of it that simply don't make any senseMito Man wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 9:20 pm Doesn’t the space refuelling plan have to work for NASA to have any chance of sending people to the moon again?

As you say, in-orbit, ship-to-ship refueling - no one even knows how many tankers will be needed (the fuel will boil away in orbit so as soon as a tanker is launched, it's fuel load starts reducing - no one really knows how quickly what will happen, how many tankers will need to be launched in what time window etc, so as to provide the moon-bound Starship with enough fuel)
Ship itself is 15 storeys tall - you're going to land that on the dusty, rocky surface of the moon? And it won't tip over, or be off vertical?
And how are you going to unload the proposed 100 tonnes of cargo? (From that 15 storey tall rocket)
And that's assuming all that cargo, stacked vertically has been done so perfectly so it didn't send the rocket off on a tangent when launched
And you could slow that whole thing without any atmosphere enough to land it in the first place?
And in landing, the rockets didn't just dig a huge hole in the lunar surface?
And it still has enough fuel left over to re-launch (without drowning itself in lunar dust and rock) and head back to earth?
It's all just nonsense in my (completely uneducated) opinion

I see there is going to be a recall of Model 3s and Model Ys built in about a 3-year period due to the headlights being too bright. It's been obvious for a while that they're too bright - I assumed they were simply badly aimed but no. Only a US recall so far. But the recall isn't happening yet because Tesla don't have a fix. I can think of one: remove the cars with illegally bright headlights from the roads today and give each owner a replacement car to drive until they're fixed. Why should every other driver have to suffer at night?
Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
Surely you could just get a can of Halfords headlight tint spray and give them a blow over

I have registered that Tesla headlights always seemed really brightJobbo wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2026 8:59 am I see there is going to be a recall of Model 3s and Model Ys built in about a 3-year period due to the headlights being too bright. 220,000 vehicles
That's quite a large recall

There's also an investigation on the front suspension on 1.2 million Teslas - the front lower balljoint has a sudden failure where it completely detaches causing a loss of control. Quite scary.
The headlight thing surprises me as I've always thought they're piss poor. They're like 10% better than halogens but they all had an issue where they would lose calibration and drift off, but that seems to be fixed with an update a few years ago.

The headlight issue is specific model years and I don’t know which markets. The one observation I have is that when cars are coming towards me at night which appear to have their full beams on, they’re invariably Model 3s and Model Ys.

Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
I’ve definitely noticed and probably commented that a lot of the overly bright headlights I see seem to be Tesla’s. I’d just assumed it was the calibration of their fancy pants aiming that was a little out, but it’s always seemed more like excess glare than something as basic as bing pointed the wrong way.
Cheers, Harry
Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
The newer ones have matrix lights so they're on high beams all the time at night and above 25 ish mph. The camera still can't do a basic function such as detecting rain properly to activate the wipers so it's probably not doing a good job of dimming the correct zones to avoid blocking oncoming cars...

Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
Do you ever get drivers flash you in your mx5? I got it occasionally in mine even though the lights were set up perfectlyJobbo wrote: Wed Aug 12, 2026 4:08 pm The headlight issue is specific model years and I don’t know which markets. The cars I notice more than any other for bright lights are Minis
Re: Elon Musk/Tesla
I’ve not driven the MX5 loads at night but it has really good matrix lights so I’ve never been flashed. Not sure if they were updated for the ND3; the light clusters themselves were to move the DRLs.
