Yeah it seems they usually connect it to an existing CU but can go direct to your meter, but does involve installing a smaller CU next to it in that case, which is yet another box on the house id rather not have

Oh joy, the BMW was not fully charged overnight by EDF. It charged a bit, think it was up to 63% when I left home but I didn't look at it properly until I realised the range was lower than it should be.

Looking at EDF's app it says it charged for 2hr 30m and added 15.05kWh of charge. The BMW battery is 18.6 kWh so that would have added ~81%. The BMW app shows that it added 62% which is 11.5kWh and shows the times it charged (total about 90 mins in two sessions with a 90min gap between them).

Anyway, the Andersen charger is entirely controlled by the EDF smart charging - it even says in the Andersen app that I have to go to EDF to control charging. The car is set to simply accept charge at any time. So it's definitely EDF at fault, and worse their own data seems to think I received more power than I did - 4kWh cannot disappear into thin air.

Well we’ve bitten the bullet and decided to go E.V. After a lot of consideration and also trudging around lots of different dealers we chose a Cupra Born for the replacement to our Cupra Ateca.

As it’s technically my wife’s car she chose the car she wanted from the short list of ‘acceptable’ options I’d given her. The supplying dealer (Chesterfield) has been perfect so far answering my endless questions/ concerns with balanced answers about range, charging and also chargers.

I know I’m going to miss the old Ateca for its ability to swallow uni stuff or take the 4 of us plus luggage on our Scotland trips but I’m also really looking forward to how the Born performs. I won’t miss the mid 30s economy of a 300hp suv though ! It was pretty subtle to own with relatively few people knowing what it was.

We’ve ordered the new style Born V2 with 79kwh battery so hoping for at least 330 miles range in the real world.

We’ve normally gone for pcp etc when buying our new cars but this time we’ve gone for leasing. Again Chesterfield Cupra matches the best lease figures we could find and added metallic paint as well.

Hopefully looking at late September delivery so until then I’ve got lots of research to do on home chargers etc

Ps thanks for the tips on this forum so far on chargers, the Anderson ones look but also need to look at other brands.

What kind of efficiency do you get from the charger ? My Victron one is between 91 and 96% efficiency. Does the BMW give you kW instead of percentage ?

It wouldn't explain it but on bigger batteries it's worth taking into account.

A friend of mine has the previous shape and he loves it, he also happens to be the tightest person you could possibly imagine so it could be a financially sensible ownership for you

I’m not entirely sure but certainly better than the discrepancy - also EDF says the car was fully charged while the car knew it wasn’t.

Following night charged fine without me changing anything so I think it was a glitch. But it did reveal that the figure in the EDF app isn’t how much it has smart charged the car because it said 44kWh and it only has an 18.6kWH. I suspect the house battery was charged at the same time and it’s included that, plus any other usage during those hours It does say it’s not the figure you’ll be charged for, so I think it’s just not properly sorted yet. Same was true for Octopus; though if the Andersen charger can log how long it’s been charging for and at what rate, it should be able to register it accurately because it’s linked.

The finances were definitely a major factor in choosing full electric over hybrid or another fast petrol. The monthly cost is basically the same as we’re paying for the Ateca but then obviously we’ll be saving a lot on running costs. I’m looking forward to seeing the comparison on our regular trips to the North East from the Peak District.

No, I mean I prefer a tart to a pudding. My ex's parents lived not far from Bakewell and she brought me back one of each (from the original Bakewell Pudding Shop, which indicates a certain bias) and it was an easy victory for the tart.
