Down south visiting my nephew and he wanted to show me the car showrooms. Has a nosy in Aston Martin Reading and Lamborghini Reading (same location) chatting to the youn sales lass at Lamborghini was pleasant, no stuffiness, just happy to talk cars. Some nice looking stuff including a Reuelto that had had everything that could be done in carbon optioned and painted in an original Muira bright yellow.
The Astons were all typically green or matt blacks but got chatting to the young in sales guy who asked if I'd like to see in the other room that wasn't generally open to customers as they had a Valhalla in there. Lovely to admire the detail close up, couldn't look inside as it was a customers car. The biggest thing I took away was how accommodating the staff were to someone who clearly had no intention of buying just wanted to talk cars.
Car window shopping
Re: Car window shopping
I haven't done that since I was very young, but the Perth motor mile road was one that we passed on the way to visit relatives and we did stop and get Porsche brochures circa 993 models and they could not have been kinder to a 13 year old ish that was spraffing pap about cars.
I genuinely thought I had talked my Mum into trading in her Polo for a 928...
Glasgow Motor show in 1993 was completely different, the premium stand people had no interest letting student me anywhere near their stock.

I went to uni along the road from Maranello Egham, also Royal Holiday Uni was up the road too, and I think they were very bored with students dropping in to look

I’m sure I’ve probably mentioned the story on here many times, but I’ll always remember the man on the Mercedes stand at the British motorshow in probably 1998??
Who was very knowledgeable and spent a great deal of time showing use around the cl and s-class models they had on the stand. He was enthusiastic, encouraged us to touch and try as many features as we liked, explained all of the tech and engineering to two scruffy 18 year old students who were highly unlikely to even consider buying one for at least another ten years.
I think companies forget how things like that can form long lasting positive impressions of an entire brand.

Exactly, I'll never be in a position to buy one under normal circumstances but lottery wins do happen and in that event I'd remember the way they treated me!integrale_evo wrote: Mon Aug 10, 2026 6:58 pm I’m sure I’ve probably mentioned the story on here many times, but I’ll always remember the man on the Mercedes stand at the British motorshow in probably 1998??
