New car day - Evora Sport 410

Post by Matty »

So a brief history - I messaged the owner of this car about 12-or-so months ago, shortly after selling the QV, making sure to let me know when he sells it. No plans, he said, but he'd let me know. Evoras are very colour sensitive - can be £5k or more price difference for the right colour. For the last 12 months, nothing really stood out for me, either the wrong price, wrong spec, wrong colour....and Emira prices were creeping back to £60k, and my savings pot has been going the opposite way.

Anyway, about a month back, he drops me a message - his new car is arriving, and it's mine if I want it. He'd had a few offers on it, but I'd asked about it first, so got first dibs. I agreed to buy it before a price was decided, which didn't give me much wiggle. Either way, I know what the p/x price offers were, and this was still very fair.

So, 2017 Evora Sport 410 in "Military Grey" with (to me) the all-important alcantara interior. Contrasting yellow stitching, yellow calipers. Pretty much how I would have specced it, had I ordered one new. Also has the regular Sparco seats, rather than the buckets - the latter not working for many people (although I may have been fine, being slim build). Oh, and all the carbon you could want....the rear louvre is especially impressive.
I've also got the cert of conformity, that this is 1/34 UK Sport 410s, and the only one in Military Grey. They did a few more GT410's in MG, but it was only a few, so a rare colour.

First big impression - with the valves open, it's ASBO loud, but it's an incredible noise. Steering is fantastic as expected. More performance than you'd ever need on the road. Firm suspension, but compliant without being crashy. Has the insulation pack, so still relatively refined. Seats aren't a patch on the Recaros from the early Evora, might look at alternatives. Needs a new headunit as well urgently, as it's got no Carplay/AA, but that's easy to do.

Other big thing that stood out is how much smaller and easier to place it feels compared to the 4C and QV, despite being about the same width. Much more confidence on the narrower roads. Either way, it's brilliant so far 8-)
And thanks to @mik for tolerating all the questions

I’m just going to assume that I have permission to shout “Hoorrah”, and therefore <clears throat> “ HOORAH! “ 8-)

Lovely example/spec <doffs cap> :ugeek:

The green looks awesome (and i’m not a green car fan) but what’s your thoughts on the door stripes? i love the 410 graphic but the stripes don’t really integrate with it and finish a little abruptly at the end of the door. I can’t decide whether i like them or not?

That is lovely!

If it ever needs a new alternator don’t bring it to me, absolute knobend of a job that has to be done through a little hatch in the back seat 🤣

That thing looks absolutely fantastic. Excellent purchase. And I bet it drives even better than it looks!

Yeah they could have done it better, running the stripe further to abutt the text and a bit more at the far side to run to the edge of the wheel arch would look better. I think you could optionally not have them fitted.

i saw a post about another part earlier - apparently the expensive Evora starter motor is a very cheap Nissan Sentra starter with a section of bracket sawn off!

Can see why you targeted it, looks well worth the wait. Any idea what he’s replaced it with? It must be a tough one to follow

That’s fabulous. More appealing than an Emira to me in fact.

When you said it was military grey I assumed it was going to be primer coloured. That’s more olive, almost like a darker version of BMW’s brass(Messing). It’s fantastic.

Mine failed. Pulled it out and pulled it apart. Fixed with new brushes - £15.13 off eBay.

J'approuve!

Looks really purposeful Matty. The colour and interior are a great combination, I like the yellow stitching too 👍
