Realise this might be an ‘Oirish’ one but I guess he may be known from The Frames, his role in the Commitments, or perhaps the Oscar winning ‘Falling Slowly’ from a few years back.

Died in a single vehicle bike accident aged just 56

But on top of his own music he was a big supporter of live Irish Music and raised massive amounts of money for the homeless charity Simon Community with his Christmas Eve charity busk on Grafton Street.

He was a hell if a guy and a hell of a song writer.

I only know him from The Commitments; I never realised he was only a few years older than me. Seems he’s done an awful lot since. Tragic, particularly because he had a 3yr old child.
