Someone I work with did the long train journeys you can do across Europe and that sounded really good.

Italian trains certainly don't mess around, I liked the speedo on display

I've done more runs up there on the bike so not a fair comparison really, but I will say you better let us know where/when you'll be (when you finalise details) so we can maybe figure out an rv of some fashion. Even if I'm still rocking the little Jazz

I cant help with Scotland, the nc500 is still on my bucket list.


Oslo is definitely worth a visit, as is Copenhagen. I did road trip last month, which included a drive from Copenhagen down to Hamburg via the Lolland ferry (which is set to be replaced by a tunnel in a couple of years).

For the Scandinavian part I wouldn't leave it later than September. Depending on how far north you're wanting to go, there's a decent chance that the move weather is gone.

Someone else I work with who is based in Belgium who I occasionally talk/message about cars, bikes and travel just got back from a train trip from Belgium, to Germany, Austria then Italy and back, seems to have enjoyed it! He said the following about the interrail pass he used:

...you have this interrail pass you can buy, with an amount of days you can use to travel. So you plan your daytrip to your location(s), and the day before you activate the passs for that day, where you will get a qr code that you can use that day for all the train trips planned. You can also change some of your trajectory.
The only caveat is, some trains might need an supplement or seat reservation. That might sometimes be a thing that requires some additional work.
But overall, it is nice to just go and relax.

Sounds like a good option to me. Train between cities, then hire a car to explore out of the city when desired?
