Keep thinking about ac but really don’t see how you could fit it in our small old house with lots of windows and not much wall space (inside or out) without massive pipe runs or the condenser looking awful.

That's part of the problem as well. I've been trying to get my folks to get it installed next winter, but turns out it's not money that's the problem, it's that they're house proud and don't want all the visible condensers and pipes!

I think I've found a reasonable solution to have it installed in the bedroom at home without too much pipework, then just use a good old house fan to push it around the house.

We also have a hosepipe ban for the first time in as long as I can remember. Quite surprised as we seemed to have about 8 months of almost constant rain before it warmed up a bit.

I’ve bought a better powered pressure washer I can feed from a bucket to air rinsing down the cars.

Surely it’s about time everyone had to have a water meter? Our neighbours are on standard rate and spend about 4h every evening watering their poly tunnels, veg patch and flowers.

Be nice if the water companies could fix leaks in a timely manner too. I passed one which was making a significant stream down the road for about a month before they bothered fixing it and then had temporary traffic lights at the site for over a week for what ended up being a two day repair.

Absolutely everyone should have a water meter. There is no excuse not to imo. Use more water? Pay more. Use less, pay less. It's literally the fairest way to do it.

These hosepipe bans aren’t due to low water levels in the reservoirs but because they can’t supply enough water to cover demand presumably due to underinvestment. It is concerning how much water pressure drops now whenever the weather gets a bit hot.

Will do the same as normal, water the plants from the pond water.

When they stop wasting money and not build new reservoirs while council tits build on flood land, maybe I'll feel bad about it using my hose still.

Nice map Have shared it with quite a few people already.

We had a 12 hour shift in the Cairngorms yesterday. Very hard work but was incredible to see things like the coordination of the helicopters and just how dramatically the wind affects the fire front, spread, speed etc. Leafblowers are incredibly effective and lots of the off-road gear and big dozers are also very cool.

2 hours of blue lights down the A9 was also a very cool experience for a big kid like me. Never tire of stuff like that.

An hour from home and we got diverted to a "small fire" in the open outside of Inverness. Which turned out to not be very small and spreading fast. Scary how quickly stuff like that can go, that was 10pm at night after a damp day too.

After 6 weeks of 30+ weather and melting in the heat, we’ve come to the West of Ireland for the holidays and true to form, it’s pissing rain…

We had about 10 seconds of moderate rain at 9am. That’s it so far. Don’t think it’ll be enough to revive the grass!
