There is an axle stand that works brilliantly and I should stop being cheap and buy them.

They are a really neat design solution, but you’re not going to be able to under something that’s low.

Remember in Dave's case, the axel stands are to protect the underside of the car from damage if it drops on him...

I like the compact and convenient nature of the £80 one Mik has posted but feel like 15 minutes with bit of box section steel and I can make one up which fits my jack exactly, is more secure and doesn’t need to be adjustable.

That occured to me too, but although I did once have access to my dad's arc welder - I gave it to Flewy.

Could probably make up a set at 250mm, 325mm, and 400mm that would probably cover almost every job.

I bought an SGS 3 tonne low profile jack recently, and very pleased I am with it. But fuck me the amount of spam I'm getting from SGS now is putting me off ever buying anything from them again. Unsubscribing has slowed it down but not stopped it.

I may need a new jack soon - I noticed recently that my Clarke 2.5t low entry jack was twisting quite badly

Any recommendations? Needs to be carryable as I keep my current one tucked away in a cabinet - don't want any more clutter in the garage.

My SGS is 40+kg, which is where a round the zone that 3T capacity seem to be. Think you might be into the "racing jack" space if you need significantly lighter?

E91 and Superb. Both <1.7t. No need for lifting big heavy SUVs or EVs here.

40kg Mik?! My current one is 13.7kg Probably why it twists

I’m not sure what my big boy one weights, but it’s definitely not filing picking it up and carting it about.

For more occasional uses I’d probably just get one of the smaller low profile jack from Halfords or whatever and be a bit more careful about how / where you’re jacking it up.
