FAO Coffee snobs
Re: FAO Coffee snobs
I can't drink instant coffee now. It tastes like coffee flavoured water, rather than actual coffee

Do you make your own coffee?Matty wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 2:42 pm I can't drink instant coffee now. It tastes like coffee flavoured water, rather than actual coffee

That, sir, is not a cat. That's a civet.
However, there is also coffee made from monkey spit. Neither would be my choice of grind.

Oh, you would notice.Beany wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 2:03 pmSame, although I'm not your missus. I was talking to a lass on a coffee stand at Eddfest, random I know, and she said I just need a single cup percolator. Does anyone have such a thing? I saw this, will it suffice?

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

We've had a right nightmare in the office the last week. The fancy machine the in-house baristas use broke, so we had to make do with just plain filter coffee.

It's not really that hard though, is it? We're all used to making sure our tea doesn't over brew from leaving the teabag in too long, right? It's practically no different with a cafetiere.Gavster wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 9:26 amI'm less inclined to use a cafetiere because it's easy to brew it for too long and end up with really strong coffee. Caffiene levels in coffee are relative to how long the coffee grounds are in contact with hot water. Therefore espresso has lower levels of caffiene, while a cafetiere has sat on the side for 10 minutes will have rocket-fuel levels.Marv wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 8:38 am
Yeah, I'm perfectly happy with a cafetiere. I bought a phin filter when I was in Vietnam and that makes pretty nice coffee too.Carlos wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2026 8:51 pm I'm surprised no votes for a cafetiere. I like a proper coffee a few times a year at home, it's cheap, easy, quick and tastes great.
I assume I'm breaking some coffee wankers rule book with that![]()
That's also why I like pourover, as I don't have to worry about timings, plus it gets the flavour of the beans nicely too.

Coffee is a more sensitive to brewing time than tea, so leaving it 30 seconds longer can genuinely change the flavour profile. I notice it most when I do aeropress because I sometimes forget to set a timer, then walk off to do something else and it goes more bitter than I'd prefer.
Re: FAO Coffee snobs
Add a tiny pinch of salt if it’s too bitter.

I can't believe this is a real coffee pod machine that actually costs £29,239.46

The best bit is it’s just a rebodied Nespresso machine
How about not having a sig at all?

Is it like the tea drinkers who say they can tell when a kettle has been boiled twice ?
