Back onto Event Horizon I watched a YouTube video a while ago that there was an even more extreme horror cut planned and partially shot but got squished by Hollywood. The original had more than enough gore for me.

I think they've lost a lot of that original footage, so they couldn't make a 'more gore' version.

Yep was apparently in a shipping container and got ruined. Still - the version as it stands is a masterpiece IMO.

Back onto the subject matter, Sam has a long and distinguished career, but I think nothing beats 'Park'

I've found this one has hit me off kilter. I'm a fan of many of his films (who isn't?) but it's who he was as a person that's always resonated. He seems to have summed up the quintessential decent Kiwi bloke - cared about things that matter and having little patience for the evils of the world. He's been particularly vocal about railing against an Australian mining company who want mine in the heart of South Island national parkland in the past 12 months, including incredible vitriol and aggression toward him. Right up to his final weeks really, been doing the right thing. His lockdown videos of him hanging with his farm animals on his vineyard down in Central Otago are the epitome of 'timeline cleanse.

The world needs more Sam Neills and less Elon Musks in immense measures - he was a top bloke and it genuinely feels like there's national mourning going on here currently. Same in Australia who semi adopted him.

His twopaddocks account on X/Twitter used to appear on my feed regularly and was indeed a joy to see. He just seemed to enjoy life and had a lovely calm, appreciative approach to things. But because Elon is a complete twonker I stopped using that platform, and never thought to see if Sam Neill was on Instagram*

*even if it is owned by that twonker zuckerberg
