Clarkson has Cancer

Post by Simon »

Saw his insta reel yesterday saying the last 2 episodes of farm are a hard watch, but then saw this on BBC news so its not really a spoiler anymore.

Deserves its own thread. From the news article it's caught early but aggressive. Hope he's ok.

FWIW that season wrapped last autumn and they’re currently filming season 6 right now, so hoping that means he was able to deal with it.

Fingers crossed for a strong recovery 🤞

It’s pretty much expected from the lifestyle he has lived, but still very sad news. It’s a miserable thing to deal with - hope he gets through it!

Cancer is a horrible bastard

My dad has just been diagnosed with colon cancer and my mum is recovering from her second bout of breast cancer. You couldn't find a cleaner/healthier living couple if you tried

Hopefully JC will come through the other side of this

Cancer is an absolute cvnt.

I wasn't sure when that series was filmed to now and obviously he's kept it private, but regardless, hopefully he gets through it.
Cheers,

Sad news. That's unfortunate that it is an aggressive form but hopefully they did catch it early as he says. Sounds like the last couple of episodes are not going to have the customary uplifting ending...

Spoiler alert!

I thought that too - we know he's not dead and we know he's fit enough to film.

Hoping he’ll be just fine. He is an imbecile when it comes to looking after himself though.
How about not having a sig at all?

Totally, years of smoking cowboy killers, heavy drinking and then mocking healthy food after his heart scare

Had some news earlier this week from an old uni friend that they've been diagnosed with advance prostate cancer, that's inoperable :( He had a PSA test 3 years ago which was clear.

He's 47 with 2 young boys, and that's really hit home hard with me.

I know the message is to get tested once you hit 50, or younger if you have a family history of it or are black, but it seems like such a slippery bastard of a cancer.

Sorry to hear that @Swervin_Mervin. An old school friend is in a similar position and it's really hit hard, not entirely sure why as I'd not seem him for 20+ years. His age, my age, circumstance etc I guess.

Regardless of age, if you notice a change in how you feel which you're worried about, go get it checked out sooner rather than later. Don't just hope it will go away.
Cheers,

Mike.

He says it's agressive but has been caught early, which I take to mean the cells are very abnormal (high Gleason score) but it has not spread. Standard treatment would be a radical prostatectomy but this does carry risks of impotence and incontinence which can put people off. Other option is radiotherapy +/- hormone therapy.

Richard Herring has also been diagnosed with cancer, the second time in a few years (first time was testicular so he had one of his balls removed). This time it's a form of blood cancer which is incurable but treatable. I suspect it's the same as my mother has; she was diagnosed with it when she had her second breast cancer. https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2026/06/ ... ond_cancer

Amazingly it seems that the cancers in my mother do not make me more likely to get cancer myself according to life insurers. But I won't be taking anything for granted since I think cancer caught early has a decent prognosis but finding it late is usually bad.

No magic to it: have a healthy diet, keep the weight off, do exercise. Prevention is better than cure.

I thought prostate cancer was particular bastard in that any man who lives long enough will eventually get some form of it although there’s quite a few variants which are benign?

Yes, a lot of it is indolent - you have some malignant cells in your prostate and your PSA is up but they are low-grade, so unlikely to do much growing and spreading. Slowly grows over time.

Cancer can get to fuck. Watching both parents go through it, my mum when I was a kid, then Dad a few years ago was eye opening for me. The differences you pick up as an adult versus a child etc. Either way though, fucking hateful. I'm genuinely grateful NZ has an end-of-life provision such that if I get it, it's terminal and definite, I can choose to put an end to it without doing the long drawn out bullshit version.
