Your fleet running reports
Re: Your fleet running reports
So the Porsche dealer sent through the renewal pack and it turns out they'd only renewed the warranty and not the roadside assistance so have had to call up separately to renew that element as once its done at the dealer they can't change coverage

After three weeks, multiple emails and several follow up phone calls, Tesla have agreed to replace my charger under warranty.
Fortunately it looks like it is a very straightforward process to swap the old one for the new (ie even I can do it).

Good result!
P.s. I pointed out it was still in warranty so you owe me a beer

Once the wiring is in place they’re no different to any electrical device. It’s just a live, earth and neutral.
How about not having a sig at all?

The value of the charger is £475 so I think that is one pint in a central London pub.GG. wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:11 pm Good result!

Yeah, you need a slightly funny screw head but that is it. The box just snaps onto the wall mount.Mito Man wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:14 pm Once the wiring is in place they’re no different to any electrical device. It’s just a live, earth and neutral.

Whilst I'm sure you could wire it up, it's an install that requires sign-off by a qualified sparky. You don't want your install documents to be referencing the wrong charger serial number if something awful happened..... and whoever is installing it needs to do the setup shizzle too (connecting it to your wifi etc etc).
(Note: between my original install, and the replacement charger being fitted - regs had changed. Internal RCD was no longer deemed sufficient, so sparky had to install another dedicated RCD at the fuse box - I couldn't be arsed arguing who should pay for that, so I did, but without that they couldn't sign off on the fresh install).

No, it was fitted by a (Tesla recommended) third party. Which is why it was a bit of a pain in the bum paying someone to check the voltages at the terminals. At least they checked the rest of the install anyway, including the EV consumer unit / PEN-fault detector.mik wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:22 pm Nice one.Did Tesla fit it originally? If so I'd expect them to be organising the install too. (When Zappi replaced ours under warranty, they sent the new charger here but agreed that the fitter I used originally could invoice them directly for the swap (I organised the fitter coming back to do this job)).

It's the exact same Tesla unit going on and Tesla advise you don't need an expert to swap it - https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/support/cha ... /replacing

Fair enough then - that's pretty clear.Explosive Newt wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:29 pm

Re: Your fleet running reports
Actually that Tesla one must have a different system with contact pads. The BMW ones are like a light fitting with the traditional live earth neutral screw in.

Yeah, there is a wall mount which brings the wires to terminals, then the unit just snaps on.Mito Man wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 5:42 pm Actually that Tesla one must have a different system with contact pads. The BMW ones are like a light fitting with the traditional live earth neutral screw in.

Found a picture of the one I did, rather messier set up

Went to Donington for a red flag strewn trackday, got reversed into and clipped by a novice while overtaking them but miraculously no damage either time. Other than that, had fun.
Tried out a new DJI osmo nano camera but mounted it a bit low on my helmet, will move it up a bit for the next one.

Is it the video or is there nearly a full second's delay between you changing gear and the display updating?dan wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 6:03 pm Went to Donington for a red flag strewn trackday, got reversed into and clipped by a novice while overtaking them but miraculously no damage either time. Bit of both perhaps, its calculated by speed and rpm and the thing changes gear so quickly there's an inevitable delay - first time i've ever noticed it though, you are not staring at the dash when you're pulling gears, but i've never known it to not be right when I glance down.

It's not slow is it?
I think at the end of the term they will offer warranty extensions up to 10yrs old, then it gets silly expensive after that. I had that on my 86 and it came in useful. I eventually got through to them on the phone yesterday asking for an update and they essentially said 'we genuinely don't know what's wrong with it, but we can see that there is something wrong.' They also confirmed it's under warranty until 2028 currently so the big bill bit isn't an issue. The only thing they did talk about was looking at faults with the hybrid battery and wondering about the towbar fitting. That one may become an argument - we didn't have it fitted on delivery as we also had a Yaris Cross and the Mrs wasn't sure which she would keep, didn't want to spec options on either car knowing she'd be selling one of them. She committed to the Corolla and we asked the dealer to fit the towbar, they refused and just pointed us to a place around the corner 'who they use' which is fine unless they use it as a cause of the current issue and argue it's not their fault because they didn't modify it.jamcg wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2026 7:18 am Do Toyota not do the thing where if it’s serviced with a main dealer they’ll keep the warranty rolling over there? Also if you’ve presented a fault before the warranty has expired then it’s covered even if the repair takes longer surely?
