Ferrari Luce Reveal

Post by Ascender »

Posted without comment. Mainly because when scrolling social media this morning I saw a picture of this and thought it was a pi$$ take.

Have at it...

Cheers,

Mike.

I saw a photo pop up on Facebook last night and was not impressed. Says something that you've posted a vid by Marques rather than a traditional car reviewer too - Ferrari having invited a tech blogger to the reveal.

The wheeltrim-like alloys are particularly awful. As are the wipers.

What’s even worse than the looks is that technically, on paper at least it’s not even impressive. The specs of an ancient Model S plaid are better - faster acceleration, top speed, lighter weight, better range.

Also wondering if this may become the most heavily depreciating car in the world? 4 door Ferraris drop like a stone. EVs drop like a stone. Here we have the ultimate combo and it will be £500,000+ with a few options

Looks like other motoring journos have now posted their ones, for some reason it was MKBHD's which was front and centre.

I really like the interior, especially the materials used, but that's no surprise given it was Jony Ive. I know we've seen components of this before, but I think it's a great use of screens and physical buttons. Not sure about the gear selector, but the rest of it looks spot on.

Exterior? Umm.....

There are some angles where I can kind of see something that looks sporty and maybe 70s/80s inspired, maybe even the Lotus Elan from the front 3/4. I like the rear lights.

Where's it actually going to sit in the lineup and what's the point of it?
Cheers,

Mike.

The interior is nice enough, I'd be happy with that in a £80,000 car, and that's the problem with that too.
I reckon it'll be forced through purely to reduce co2 fleet emissions, want a combustion engine Ferrari? Well you'll have to buy this EV.

I bet the interior components feel way better than anything you'd get in a 80k car though.

I did wonder if they would just make another model of the Purosangue which was EV only rather than a whole new model.

If Johnny Ive had made a car branded 'Ive' or even 'Apple' some of the details would seem right. As a Ferrari it's utterly wrong. And whatever it is badged, I'd have a Lucid Air any time. Watching the interior stuff made me think of the Fisker Ocean.

I quite like the interior, it does feel very Apple. Not 100% sure it "suits" a Ferrari. The exterior is horrendous though.

The rear looks like he saw Jeremy clarksons comments about a bmw i8 shitting out a 911 and thought “ I can do better”

Looks like it should be a Lancia and about a quarter of the price.

Love the philosophy of the interior design though, hope that gets applied on more models and by other brands.

I saw a clip with the Ferrari design lead talking about it being a wedge car chassis and then you’ve got the body on top which allows for very high aerodynamic efficiency. Only thing is it looks like a Chinese car has swallowed a Ferrari and its coefficient of drag isn’t very good either.

Also agree with the general sentiment that it’s probably what Ive designed to be the Apple car which was rightly rejected!

https://www.wallpaper.com/transportatio ... arc-newson this got circulated on another thread and I'm 100% behind the philosophy of properly thinking through the physical interaction with the vehicle... although it is basically just applying consumer electronics principles to car interiors, it's overdue.
The problem with being first like this is that other manufacturers will watch how it lands and subsequently do it better.

So that's another multiplier to this car's depreciation.

The one advantage as far as I can see is that this is such a departure from Ferrari's identity that it is unlikely to be seen as one and the brand won't get so tarnished by association.

Yeah, they should’ve called it a Dino or something.. it’s not a Ferrari. I like the wheels and rear lights, but it needs a sharper front end. I’m sure the cabin will be fine but the moveable centre screen will probably fall off in a month..

Weird times at Maranello: family 4 door has NA V12, hypercar has a hybrid turbo-charged V6, and now this!..

Wondering if this is the replacement for the Purosangue? It's due to release next year, at which point the Purosangue will be at the end of its life. A lot of the marketing guff compares the chassis strength and various components on Luce to the Purosangue. Ferrari only have one 2+2/4 seater type family car on sale at a time. And with Euro 6 it makes no sense to waste your precious v12 on a SUV.

I kept thinking I’ve seen that front end before but couldn’t quite place it, just remembered it now

I watched this the other day and it has quite severely dampened my want for a Lucid.
