Junction lane arrows on road surface only.

We’ve all been there - you approach a set of lights or a roundabout you don’t know well, and only find out you’re in the wrong lane as a gap in the traffic exposes the arrows. And all the locals think you are a TAUC as you try to get in the lane you should have been in.

I approached a new-ish junction the other night, and there was only a big fucking sign that repeated this information, but viewable from waaaay back.

Obviously more expensive, but fucking hell it’s so much betterer.

Note how an extra lane appears on the left, so when you were previously told to be in the left hand lane for Stourbridge, you now need to move to the middle lane. Google didn't ever send its Streetview cars there in a busy period it seems but it's not uncommon to have quite a queue leading up to the roundabout.

At least when I often use the right hand lane to pass people on my way to Stourbridge, I don't feel too guilty because the sign tells me to do so.

My current Roadmaking pet hate - there's big new roundabout leaving Newport Pagnell. It's 3 lanes approaching the roundabout from the Newport Pagnell side with straight ahead, left and right, all 2 lanes.

So the lefthand lane is left - or straight ahead exiting into the slow lane
The middle lane is straight ahead only, exiting into the "fast lane"
The right hand lane is right only.

These markings are clear and obvious on the roundabout itself

However, the road markings as you approach the roundabout, (there is no sign) show all three lanes as straight ahead

It's only been open for a year but there's already been plenty of crashes (mainly right hand lane wanting to go straight ahead and cutting the person in the middle lane up)
