Come on guys, stop being younger than me!

BTW - wasn't the Alfa 164 based on the same platform? Did Harry miss that?
i never really considered the rest of the car! The awesome engine and overly complicated spoiler were all it was to me!

FWD v8 meant it was always placed in the "epic but do not want" category.

I was always highly delighted that they ditched the flat plane crank for a conventional one - best sounding Ferrari V8 of the era 8-)

It’s a shame they didn’t do a 164 8.32. Those looks & that engine would’ve been amazing.

Exactly as I thought. Still got it 8-)

Skip to 1.35 in Harry's vid and he says it's one of a family of three cars - the Thema, the Croma* and the Saab 9000. Missed out the 164.

Basically I win and now all of his cars are belong to me.

* and you said Chroma so i beat you as well, please give me your GTR.

You know I looked at that and thought something was wrong with that word but couldn't put my finger on it.

The first 3 came out quite a while before the 164 so often people forgot the relationship.

Also the first 3 shared a very similar external styling. When the 9000 became a saloon as well as hatch it looked very similar to the Thema and as a hatch it looked like the Chroma.

The 164 looked more like the Peugeot 605, although I personally thought Pininfarina did a better job with the Pug.

All of the Type 4 cars were pretty rubbish in my opinion.

(GT-R is in the post)

Yes I know...

I also ought to write something about it since it was the car I have owned for longer than any other and it was utterly brilliant.

Except to be honest, I'm not really missing it. The Audi is so good, so much better than I expected, and the BMW so boring yet SO soothing on the commute that I wouldn't do it justice if I wrote about it in this frame of mind.

I totally get that. Mrs A's touring is so comfy and quiet that we take that if were going out now with family instead of the Golf. lot more room in it also. Was toying with a DMS remap for it though...

Definitely agree with that.

Had mixed feelings watching that video because I'd always assumed I'd absolutely love that car and that the 8.32 engine would be similar in character to how it is in the Ferrari's. I hadn't realised they'd changed the crank, etc. to make it more of a typical off beat sounding V8. Essentially similar to the conversion that Ferrari do when they build Maserati the 4.7 for the GT - though in this case without as much exhaust tuning of the sound. I do like the 928-esque howl at the top end that Harry rightly identified.

Overall just looks a bit too understated and undermodified from the standard car so far as the body in white goes (even for something that was intended to be somewhat of a sleeper). That spoiler though 8-)

Oh and Harry... its Them-a, not Theema  Nearly as bad as Hoovie with his "Testa Rosa".

The Alfa 164 had different doors to the Saab, Fiat and Lancia. Since they all shared identical doors they were rather constrained to look similar.

Good to see so many people on here following my lead of enjoying relaxing big estate cars 😄

Now I’ve watched the 8.32 video, he also omitted the Fiat Dino from his list of cars which have a Ferrari engine. Doesn’t the Maserati 8C too?
