Yep. And I don’t think it's necessarily Starmer that people have an issue with. Yes he comes across as a mindless robot with pre-programmed responses, but he is otherwise a fairly safe pair of hands. It's the economic policies that have crucified their vote.

I suspect that Streeting and Burnham have way too many skeletons in closets, and if either takes charge it don’t be long before those skeletons are aired. One's part of the Mandelson cabal and the other has too long a history of burying inconvenient truths.

As has probably been covered by some of the other posts on here. In a country that has fallen victim to increasingly divided, opposing and incompatible view points what is a Prime Minister that is trying to do the best for everybody supposed to do? You literally can't please everybody, in fact whatever you do is going to be insufficiently extreme for one side or the other anyway.

I've never voted Labour in my life, but whilst mistakes have been made (who on earth wouldn't make some?) I haven't seen anything to suggest that Starmer isn't a man of integrity and decency who is genuinely doing his best for the country as a whole. He's actually shown no small amount of steel either.

No I don't agree with everything he believes in, or all his policies, but when I look at the realistic alternatives actually I'll just settle for decency/integrity all day. That's a sad state of affairs in itself, but it's where we are.

So what happens next, Labour going to turn into a bigger mess, Farage is PM. I don't think I need to articulate just how much worse that will be. Well done to everybody who's done him in, you've fucked us.

Farage won't get enough votes to be PM I don't think*. I think the next GE will see no majority, and the possibility of a coalition.

Substantial amounts of Farages (and Reforms) funding comes from crypto, party donations via such have been banned due to lack of traceability - so they literally might not be able to afford to put enough MPs up to be a realistic challenge.

Plus people forget that, typically, local elections are treated by voters as an interim opportunity to voice their opinions on the course of the incumbent Government, but with the reduced risk of causing too much carnage. So voting Reform or Green at the LEs, en masse, does not mean that those same voting patterns will play out at the next GE. It's a way of saying "Oi! Nobheads! Sort it out or else."

Agreed. however, this is about his only redeeming feature - he's capable of responding in interviews as though he's a human that's thought about the question, rather than reciting the internally programmed response.

I mean, it says something about the state of UK politics when we're looking for "responding like a thinking human" as a positive in a politician.

Successful business owners, CEOs, professionals in their field should be the ones doing the job. Not politicians.

We should pay them far more to actually get capable people running the country. I applaud anyone wanting to help their local area but can't imagine anyone wanting to be in the higher positions of government.

Theres a bit more nuance to it than that though. If they’d all voted for it in the way the tory’s proposed it, then it would have stopped another piece of legislation designed to help children.

Thats why they launched an independent enquiry into the grooming gangs that wouldn’t kill off other protections for children (admittedly they should have proposed it earlier).

Well it’s all gone a bit Game of Thrones this evening, Andy Burnham having a potential route to becoming an MP, Angela Rayners tax issues sorted, Wes Streeting holding off launching any bid until everyone’s assembled - it’s all very exciting….


…but i can’t help think it’s all going to go pear shaped, Reform will end up winning the by-election and it’ll all come to nothing for Burnham, Wes or Angela will challenge Liz Trusses lettuce for shortest and we’ll end up with an early GE.
